hi planing a trip to sunny san diego this july can anyone give me an idea on where to find a good knife store?

Can't really find any worth while down there. I go about once a month to visit granny and look every time I'm down there. I live in San Clemente and if I feel like getting my fix I drive about 25 minutes north and go to Plaza cutlery. If your in San Diego it's roughly 1 and a half hours but we'll worth it as the drive is nice with plenty of good food to try if not from the area.

Yep. Plaza Cutlery is the place to go. As others have said, it's quite a bit North of San Diego. But it's definitely worth the trip.

My father-in-law lives in San Clemente off Camino de Estrella. We'll probably be up there this weekend (from San Diego). I've been looking for a shop in SD, but there isn't one. If I had any spare $$, I would open up a shop, but then I'd get questions I could not answer from people who know more about knives than I do. (that would be most people!)

The two best shops I've been to in California are Plaza Cutlery at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa (for production knives) and Nordic Knives in Solvang (for custom knives). Solvang is way out of the way for someone going to San Diego. But if I were anywhere inside the State of California, I might have to make the pilgrimage to Nordic just to check out their world-class selection of custom knives (and, of course, hang out for a day in Solvang too. :) )

Here's Nordic Knives website: http://www.nordicknives.com/

Howdy, San Clemente is a cool little place. Not much going on here except for the awesome weather, food and the beach. I too wanted to open a knife shop but then thought it would be hard to compete with Plaza Cutlery. I feel like a kid and quickly become overwhelmed when I go there.
