how goes it folks.. here's some pics from the 3-D shoot we went to yesterday (sunday 1-18).. it was a lot of fun as usual..
the day was turned out to be just beautiful.. cold in the morning but nice and warm in the afternoon...not to make you folks who are living in the snow, too jealous, but it was probably in the 70's...

this one was put on by the San Fransisco Archers... it's called the Cabin Fever shoot, since it is the first shoot of the year, and by this time all of us archers are tired of being couped up indoors and we're getting a bit antsy to get out and shoot...
the S.F. archers range is absolutely gorgeous.. it's one of my favorites... i look forward to their shoots every year... the range is located just outside of S.F... in small beach town called Pacifica.. Pacifica is nestled along the scenic HWY 1, which winds along a big portion of the CA. coastline... the range is a few hundred yards inland....

the misses and the little dude went along again, they're both really jazzed about shooting these days... they both had a great time...it's now a full family affair...

if anyone is going to grow up and shoot some bears, it's going to be this guy... he's a born warrior.. he loves his little osage selfbow that our friend Max made for him... shoots pretty darn fast too..

we had STINGRAY( wearing the beanie), his wife and his dad joining us on sunday.. Nick had great time shooting and shot really well, for being so new to the sport... great job again Nick..

our older son rocked as usual... this stuff is now second nature to him, he's been doing it for so darn long.. both boys ended up taking first place in their divisions...

thanks for looking...

cheers... mike and family

Nice pictures and a nice looking family, Mike. Thanks for sharing.

Looks like it was a fun outing. How many folks turned out to shoot? The clubhouse and grounds around the targets should be looking good since I went down to take a look at the range a few months ago and it looked like a lot of work was going on.

Great pics, looks like you all had a lot of fun. Looks like a good way to get into the woods and involve the family. I'll need to look into this for something to do in my area, who knows might even get my gf to get involved.

I'm a complete novice to this sport so (please forgive my question if it has already been well covered) could you tell me how you score this? Do you play it like a round of golf, ie walk round a series of targets and there are set distances for men, women and children. You then shoot and whatever score you get is fair to compare against the others?

Man, you got some great pictures Mike. Here are some of the ones my wife took as she tagged along.

This was my first trad archery shoot, I was really stoked about it, and had a great time. It's hard not to with such a great group to shoot with.

So, I finally got to really take my new bow out for a day of shooting! If anyone remembers, my wife got it for me for Christmas, after I got really interested in traditional archery when visiting MtnFolk Mike and Boomstick at the Petaluma shoot last year.
Obviously, I didn't do great, but I did a heck of a lot better than I was expecting. I actually hit some of the targets!Happy Nana:nanadance

I had so much fun, I can't wait to shoot again!!! Hopefully I can hit the range this week and make it to another shoot on Saturday! Happy Nana archer1

Anyways, here are some(a lot) of the pics my wife took...

The whole gang, minus my wife and dad (pack mule, babysitter, respectively) who weren't shooting.

I like this one, because my wife caught an arrow in flight, even if it isn't very well framed.

Here is a pic of the mammoth to give an idea of how far it was. Look real close, it's in the background. We shot about 20 feet closer than I'm standing and off to the left as the sign indicates.

Archery is my new obsession...

P.S. I just finished making the quiver and armguard I am wearing this past week. They might look familiar because I used Mike's patterns... Thanks again Mike!:beer1:

Do you play it like a round of golf, ie walk round a series of targets and there are set distances for men, women and children. Ya, it's kinda like that. For this one, you walk a big course, from target to target. There is a stake in the ground at an unmarked distance and a part of your body has to be touching it when you shoot, usually your foot. This shoot everyone shot 3 arrows at each target, and they used a 3-5 scoring system. In otherwords, you got 3 points for hitting the animal, and 5 for hitting the vitals. Add up all you arrows, and mark down that score for that target(hole). So if I shoot 3 arrows at target 12, one misses, one sticks in a leg, and the other is a vital shot, then I would mark down 8 points. If I got all 3 arrows in the vitals then I would get 15 points. And unlike golf it is better to get a higher score.

Distances are the same for men and women, but they are separated into different groups, so the women compete against the women, men against men, children against children, and it is also divided by bow type, longbow, recurve, and compound. Oh and the compound guys have to shoot a little farther away. The children under a certain age can just go up to a rough distance that there group thinks is appropriate.

If you look at most of the pictures, you will see a silver stake next to everyone's foot. The red stakes were for the compound guys.

Supposedly they also have archery golf, were the targets are so far away, you have to shoot multiple times just to get close enough to the target. I haven't been to one of those, so I can't explain that one.

That's good stuff right there. I'm envious of your weather. Our first shoot isn't until the end of next month......and that is still pretty cold here.

Thanks Mtnfolk, those are some great pictures. We had some warmer weather in Colo. but nothing like what you have. It's good to see your entire family shooting trad. You guys have some fine gear. I especially liked the quivers.

You guys carry a bunch of arrows! How do you keep track of them all?

Great pics Mike! I really miss 3D shoots. Some of the best fun you can have with a bow in your hands. I've got to find an active group around here...

:eek:Man that looks sweet.....

Awesome time I bet. I really need to get out and fling some arrows. Damn the cold.

No problem. I don't know about the better camera thing, I really like some of the shots you got. Do you mind if I download some of them from your photobucket account?
Did you not upload all the pics to photobucket? It seems you took more that aren't up there. If you want any of mine, feel free to download them from flickr.

P.S. Not that she reads these forums at all, but for future reference it's K-a-t-h-r-y-n.;)

Awesome Pics Mike and Nick! Looks like you guys had a terrific time. Next time you guys are shooting in Pacifica, let me know, I'd love to come out and just watch.
