Well it has been beckoning me from the back of the maintenance shop and in my down time today I thought I would bust out of the office and do some blasting. I had my trusty "beater" D4 in my desk so I disassembled and went to work.

I blasted the clip, blade, lockbar, and slabs. Shown here with my another D4, I bet ya cant tell the difference...

Looks good, nice job.

How does the blasting affect the grip of the FRN handle?

sal

honestly the FRN held up really well to the blast media. Granted we use a pretty fine grade bead. It knocked off some of the high points on the faces but it discolored it more than deformed it.

That has to improve grip, good job...............but
You sandblasted the blade? It's not too rough?

I've bead blasted 2 user Spydercos- a Jess Horn & a Caly Jr. Both in Micarta. Both were getting some use in the stone shop and had a fair amount of scratches. Afterwards, the scratches were gone & left the blades w/ a grey matte finish- possible downside being a higher exposure to rust- easily remedied w/ a minimum of care- but the primary improvement was a "grippier" texture on the otherwise smooth Micarta scales.

How did you disassemble it?
I didn't. I just did it in stages & afterwards I simply blew/worked the blasting medium out of the tight bits & back to work we went. Actually in retrospect, I did remove the clip(s) 1st.
