Hi Folks,

I've been gathering sandblasting stuff for a while now. I'm overdue to hook the stuff up, obtain any missing pieces and put it to use. I'm hoping some of you guys can help sort out what I have and suggest how to hook it up and use it.

I understand there are two basic types of sandblasting systems the siphon/draw system or the pressure pot system. I also understand the siphon system is easiest and cheapest, but requires more air volume and pressure. On the other hand, the pressure pot is more complicated and expensive, but more effective with less air volume and pressure.

Please take a look at what I have and suggest away.

Thanks so much, Phil

Use the cabinet. I use glass beads for blasting stainless steel and getting a great textured grip on G10 and micarta. Your compressor will keep up as long as you aren't going to be doing 10 knives at a shot.

I intend to use the cabinet, but wonder if it would be to my advantage to do so in conjunction with a pressure pot. And if so, how? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks, Phil

Having used both my answer to your question is NO. the pressure system only uses pressure to feed sand into the air stream, instead of relying on a venturi to suck the sand into the air stream, resulting in more reliable and steady feed of sand. for the short run that you will use in the cabinet you probably wouldn't be able to tell the differance.

I used a gun with a siphon feed for years for this that and the whatever,
last winter got a blast cabinet and wonder how I ever got along without it.
I'm only using like 70-80 psi and can't say enough good about the cabinet.
I haven't found anything that will fit in the cabinet that I can't do a good
job on.
Ken.

Is that compressor actually 5 HP running or 5 HP Max developed? Will make a difference, otherwise it might be only 2 HP running and since the cabinet/gun takes a hell of a lot of air, you might end up waiting for the tank to fill up quite often. (ask me how i know lol).

Hell if I know. I got the compressor used from a friend years ago. Mostly I've used it to inflate tires, blow lines and radiators clear and what not. To tell you the truth, I'm surprised the thing still running.

Maybe I better not get rid of those pressure pots too quick? After what Bill and Ken said I thought maybe I might cut them up and have some forge bodies. :D Or, maybe could figure out how to use one for a stabilizing pressure pot.

I'm really at square one trying to figure out how to get the cabinet running. It doesn't seem like I have a gun or nozzle inside the cabinet. There is a hose going down into the media hopper. The end inside the blast cabinet is just cut off. There's no nipple or anything. I don't know how/where to hook up the compressor. There's an opening into the lower right corner of the blast cabinet, but I do not understand how it would interface with the media hose. I believe I see how to stack up the the dust collector buckets and bag. They must connect to the opening at the top left of the cabinet.

I need help understanding how to do even just the basics.

Thanks guys! -Phil

Phil,

The pressure pots will use up a lot more air than the cabinet.

It sounds to me like you are missing the gun assembly from the cabinet. You should have a gun/nozzle hooked to the feed line coming out of the media hopper, and an air supply line from the gun to your compressor. the vaccuum set up does indeed connect to the port on the left side of the cabinet. there should also be a baffled hole on the right side of the cabinet to vent or let the cabinet equalize when the vaccuum is running. this lets the vaccuum remove pulverized media and all the stuff that is removed from what you are cleaning. you should be able to use this gun assembly.

It is 29.00 at harbor frieght. You won't need the plastic bucket/hopper. Hope this helps.
