You should take a trip to REI and take a look at their sandals. They can at least accurately measure your feet and give you a good idea of what kind of sandals you really want. Afterwards, take a look for the brand and size you want on Amazon. I have worn Tevas for years and have just recently given Chacos a try. So far, I am very happy with them.

Just got back from a vacation in Key West, and I lived in my Teva's. My Keens were worn for the trip down via airline, but once in the Key, the Teva's took over. The make a better wet condition sandal, and I was in the water a lot. Plus it thunder stormed every afternoon about wish, and the Teva's were better wading through puddles. They dry out faster than the Keens that I love for general use. Plus it got really hot there, and the more open design of the Teva's were more comfortable.

More about my Chacos...

Mine are the Z2. At least with this particular style, you can keep the ankle strap quite loose and the over-the-foot and toe straps will hold the sandal tight enough against the foot for sidewalks or a trip to the mall. They are very comfortable when worn this way. I only tighten the ankle straps on mine for outdoor play.

If you can, go to REI, they have the best return policy I've ever seen. I have a pair of Keens, these. They are extremely comfortable, I'm pretty big, with diabetes and neuropathy in my feet. Comfortable, wide. Very shock resistant.

Another vote for these. My wife and i have been wearing them for about a year now with no complaints.

I agree with you I've owned closed toe sandals before i got my Tevas unless i am climbing around on rocks i like as little as possible material on my feet especially with as hot as it's been this summer have a pair of Garmons for climbing.

I happened by REI a couple weeks ago and looked at the Chacos, mainly because of this thread. I have long worn Birkenstocks, but as my current pair is nearing five years old I was interested ot see what else is available. I was surpriesed to see a pair of Chaco's in my size, (15) and they were on the clearance rack to boot. (about $80) They are the Updraft 2 model. I wore them out of the store and haven't much worn anything else when I'm not at work since. Very comfortable even in the woods plus much less slippage like I always got when my Birks were wet. So far I'm sold. The sole looks just as robust as my work boots, so I expect this pair to last quite awhile.

Thanks to the OP for making this thread, I thank you from the bottom of my feet.
