Recommendation? Sanding An Arkansas Stone

Regarding sharpening or lapping at the sink, I remember seeing a warning from somebody here or maybe on a waterstone mfr's site, the abrasive slurry coming off the stones can quickly ruin a garbage disposal's grinding mechanism (bearings, etc), if the kitchen sink is used for such purposes. Seems like collecting the slurry in a pan to be dumped elsewhere is a good idea.

This is why I like my Shapton pond. I can sharpen, drain the water then let it dry. Once dry I simply scrape the stone material into the garbage.
