Sanding Belt joining/tape

I have a small sander I would like to make some 1" belts for, that I can't buy locally in the better quality stuff. Anyone know what the correct tape is for this? I assume it may be exotic so while I wait for delivery is there a so so substitute?

You can't make your own belts. The adhesive is super expensive, kept on dry ice, and has something like a one week shelf life.It takes special equipment to make the splice,too.

However, you can order any size belt you want ( 1.125X23.7" - no problem) from Klingspor - in any belt type that they make. Call John Williams at 1-800-645-5555 , www.klingspor.com . He is the knife making rep. He will have them custom make any belt that they don't stock, which is unlikely. There is no charge for custom sizes. Any quantity order is fine,too.
