Sandvik 13C26 or the S30v

I have the sandvic Avid and love it.It does get laser sharp and seems to hold up pretty well for me.It cost a whole $30.00 + shipping.Id like to try the Kershaw.

I should point out that they are two different models.

The Speed Bump is made out of Santoprene and Akulon (injection molded) handle with a 13C26 Sandvik blade. #1595 (also was available as 1595ALBLK, black alum. handle)

The Spec Bump uses a 3-D machined G-10 handles with an S30V blade. #1596
The last of the Spec Bumps were released with stonewashed S30V blades. #1596SW

13C26 for sure. I don't think 12c27 is a step up from it, but a choice between these 2 would be much more difficult.

i've found that 12c27 stays sharper longer, and is more resistant than 13c26 to rust. the great thing about these 2 sandvik steels are there value. the cost to performance ratio is awesome.

I've had great luck with S30V since most of my EDCs use this steel. Not too bad to sharpen and does stay "user-sharp" for a long time. On my Spyderco Sage2 I have had some chipping issues but not on any other S30V based knife.

I'd go with S30V as long as the heat treat is good. I can whittle hair with my S30V, and it seems to keep a working/shaving edge for a very long time after it stops whittling hair. Corrosion resistance is also good.

13c26 is my vote. it really does get scare sharp.

i have the for-mentioned buck vantage pro(s30v) and avid(13c26).

i prefer the avid over the pro, i have ABUSED that knife on a few camping trips. no problems.

Was either of those blades treated by Paul? Have his logo>?

I've heard that 12C27 was a straight razor steel. Haven't heard much on the other Sandvik steels. I'm a fan of edge stability & freaky edges but have yet to get my hands on any Sandvik stuff. It's hard to say much about S30V because it's become a baseline steel. I've used it a bit in different knives & it's an all-around good performer. Reminds me of 154CM with more wear resistance.

Hi, the S30v I've had chips and isn't easy to re-sharpen if you want a super steel get S35VN It's has a nice feel and you can put a edge on easily, or just re-edge the sandvik more often sandvic has a nice feel also. George God bless
