Sandvik 14C28N

Reason I'm asking I should add, is it a decent metal or any of there knife metals. And what type might be easy to work with. And also I happen to have a friend that works for them and might see if he can aquire me some to mess around with. I used to do thermal arc spray coatings for him before he started working for them and spayed with some of their experimental metals for that field for test cases and acquiring some might not be too difficult.

As a user of 14C28N - I love it! It gets soooooo incredibly sharp, and rather easily, too.

That's good to know. Unfortunately I'm strapped to my phone and it sucks for stuff like this, but it's something that I just thought of and you know how it is to have friends that just happen to work somewhere or have good connections. Worth looking into anyway. I did him a lot of favors back in the day.

I use it a lot, great steel, sadly local branch of sandvik ran out of stock and replaced it with 13C26, today I was nesting all the profiles I need to laser cut my last sheet... :(

14C28N is my favorite blade steel - just wish I could still get it in the thickness I desired. I like the Sandvik steels!

Where do you normally purchase it from? It looks like the HT is pretty simple.

I have been lucky enough to get a couple pieces of 12c27M from a friend in Switzerland, and I love it. It takes a keen edge and is stainless enough that Sandvik says it's good for dishwasher cleaning. I will say that the pieces I got were already hardened to about Rockwell 'C' 59-60 and I have been very pleased with the results--the pieces I got were thin stock though--a little smaller than 1/8" stuff. I would like to get some little bit thicker stock though, it's really good stuff.
