I am working on some santokus in 1095 and I am liking them so far. They are a lot of fun to do as with the wider blade you can play around a bit with the clay.

I Think I may need to make myself a few kitchen knives.

Oil Quench??
If so what type of Oil?
Have some fighters in progress in 1095
Thanks

NICE. Say what you want about the benefits of a full-hard knife, but I do love hamons. So much beauty and a visible representation of our heat treatment. Looking forward to seeing those polished up!

May I ask if they are forged or stock-removal? I tried a couple kitchen knives and flat grinding the 2.5" wide blade was a real pain for me. I don't know if forging would've made it more or less difficult.

Your blades look great, by the way!

Thanks guys. These are stock removal.

Oh and Tom, you need to post up some of your sweet belt axes. A WIP would be fun for all of us.

I did the glue up last night. Here is a shot of one of them in a sweet little vise that Chuck Ward made.

p.s.
George I am just about out of heat treating relish. I think I have developed a bit of a habit! I am making jerky with it, putting it on BBQ, mixing it with mayo, etc. I may have to grow some habaneros this spring.

Well looks like I may need another jar then. Shoot I just finished eating some spaghetti with a little heat treating relish mixed in.
