SAR 4 tongue removal!

I like the proportions of that more than the original:thumbup:

The balance would be nice to get an even 50-50...but less handle weight is an improvement.

Maybe a couple of holes in the tang would solve the problem. But he should take the scales off first.

Nice mods Davidz, looks like the knife will be more comfortable in the hand. Now all you have to do is come up with an acronym for the new model you have created.

Looks good. I heard that if you take those INFI shavings and sprinkle them on your....

....oh... I've said too much.

I used my SAR4 just a couple weeks ago to field-dress a deer and it felt just a little too long inside the body cavity. Those modifications should definitely help to make the SAR4 a better deer dressing knife.
Good luck this season David

the choil mod looks fantastic (though, personally, I like the talon holes and wish it would've just come with a big useful choil in the first place).

I've never gotten the whole teeny-choil thing, either make it big and useful or leave it off.

either way, killer mod. well done. ;)

Wow. It's no longer a Busse - NO talon holes. ROTFL!

I like that second mod. Reminds me of the SR Vexaramius, er. . . Vexamillion, um. . . Vexahistamine, VEX.

Can I ask - with all that mod'ing - where is the balance-point now? (SAR4's are too back-heavy. I'd love to move the balance to the index-finger on it.)

It is still handle heavy, but better. It balances about 1/2" behind the first rivet

Looks great!

How did you grind out talon area and enlarge the choil?

I first used a carbide bit in a die grinder, and routed the talon hole out in one piece, going slow, and dipping in ice water all the time. Then I used a sanding cartridge roll, the size that I wanted the finger choil. Again, went slow, and dipped in ice water all the time. Actually, my first choil followed the contour of the handle slabs. I did not like the feel of it, so out came the cartridge roll :D

I think that will be the next change!

And I have been wondering how it would look as a drop point!!:eek:

ah, the obsessive compulsive drive on Infi dust. Never can get enough, never.

That is a lot more mod than I have ever done on infi though. I was just thinking the SS would make a great folder in a really strong locking douk style handle.
