Sar 5 -

1 time "accidental" run, a lot of mixed feelings, personally I'm a big fan of the design with no choil or obtrusive finger guard.

Makes a great all-around camp knife, the handle design is what trips up some folks. I've heard it described as a "hammer handle". We'll see what the next design changes, possibly soon....

I like it, though I'd like to see a little more ergonomic handle on it myself.

Here's a pic from the trading forum

I like it ! Is it INFI and hs anyone done a review or anything. I'm finding it very hard to get info on it !

INFI it is....haven't seen any reviews, but I haven't been around for a while.

I like the SAR5 although a contoured handle would feel better. :)

Indeed, I'll post up pics of the one I'm modifying if I ever get around to finishing it.

Drop point, skeletonized protruding tang, shortened handle (no more rear lanyard hole), contoured handle and full convex zero edge.

Just need to finish the incredibly tedious process of skeletonizing it, finish polishing then reattach the handles.

thanks lads, it's strange looking for a Busse ! What was the description when it was released !!

My favorite Busse. More blade than a batac with the same handle length in a more compact package. I wish Jerry would use a framing hammer for inspiration on all of his blades. The sar5 is WAY more ergonomic than any other Busse that I own.

Orange scales and OD blade was the best combo. By far!

Now I gotta melt down the handles a bit to make it a tad more even-balanced. Then it'll be a GREAT mid-sized belt knife.

It's an odd duck in the Busse line. Jerry hated it, and it was only produced by (drunken) accident. The user community seems split. I like mine, but the handle was a little blocky. I have knocked off the shoulders with a belt sander, and stripped and cleaned up the blade.

I like it a lot. Better than the two BAIII's that I've sold, actually. Similar blade length and profile, but it has a slightly down-swept handle that I find very natural for cutting. As far as the thick handle goes, once again....I like it.

I've got a couple with the orange g-10 and OD combo, and I plan on stripping one and making it my "does everything besides chopping" type knife.

Brendan,

Here's some info I posted the other night - sorry I can't post pics yet:

SAR - Sweeeeeeet

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For my uses (General camp chores), by far this is the best from the factory angle/grind I have had to date from Busse.

I have re-profiled all that I have had so far (BATAC/Shaker/Basic 5) to get them to their optimal (IMO) cutting efficiency - but not so with the SAR.

As soon as I got it tonight, I went out back to take it for a test drive to see how it would do in Fire prep - Batonned some sections off some of last season's wood (Not sure what it was - it was seasoned and the bark had come off) and then tried it out on making some wood curls - they were so tight - caught to flame off a fire steel

Wood curls are tighter on it than my re-profiled BATAC - and the BATAC is quite impressive BTW

The Low grind is prrrrrrfect for the stuff I primarily use my blades for - Can't wait to see how it does skinning a deer this weekend (that is if the Lord let's me take one with the bow)

I've always liked the choils - but that extra inch or so (in comparison with the BATAC) on the blade really came in handy on batonning.

I love the weight/ profile - the whole deal.

I can honestly say - this is the first blade that I have no intention of re-profiling - might not sound like much of a claim, but I do my fare share of wood working - and this is a milestone.

This ones a keeper

I had one and put it up for sale within a few days of getting it. The handle was a little big for my hands but not a deal breaker really as I could have done something about that. What turned me off was I kept choking up on the handle and was getting uncomfortably close to the blade. Would have kept mine if it had a guard. Great design other than that.
