Hey Hogs,

Just a few quick questions:

1. How do you guys like the feel, weight balance, ergos, etc. of the Busse SAR 8 Persian Variant?
2. Do you happen to know the weight?
3. Do you feel like the blade would effectively serve as an effective defense tool and also an effective survival blade?
4. Would you recommend this or another Busse model as a template for making a nice "Persian Style" knife design that would be highly effective in the situations mentioned above?

Thanks Guys!

For me personally, I certainly would not want a Persian blade as my survival knife. They make for a good fighter though.

I have a standard SAR8 and love it. I think it would check all your boxes except for the one marked - Persian. Not sure the weight and I'm at work so can't check just now. I think the SAR family are a great bunch of knives and feel that they often get overlooked for more new school blades.

Hope it helps.

Persian style blade, are as Zmbhntr said, great fighters but not great survival knives. Too much curve in the blade for a lot of tasks imo and if both edges are sharpened it won't do baton work well either. If you want an all around fighter and survival knife, I would go with a different design. Just my .02

Regular SAR8 (or even SAR6) is much more useful for everything you might use a Busse for. SARGE7 & Persian are about equal and neither were for me.

The SAR line are for the most part excellent blade shapes for penetration, even down to the little 3. For example, I don't see "zombies" being nearly as tough as a nylon belted car tire...

...or a truck hood the SAR8 (stage right) had no trouble with,

Thanks so far for all the relies, tips, and pics ---

I should have clarified that I'm looking to fill a niche that has been unfulfilled. I'm looking for the best fighter/survival blade. The primary task is for fighting and the secondary task would be for survival. I have many models that serve the survival role first and then other roles like "fighting" secondary. The only dedicated Busee/Bussekin fighter model that I have is the Taliwhacker. I know there's a Tank Buster Persian variant and also the ST-56 Persian Fighter model. However, the Sar 8 Persian Variant caught my eye because of the reach, geometry, ergos, and blade thickness. I figured it would be the ultimate primary large fighter secondary survival blade.

I figured the weight and length would be enough to generate modest chopping power and at 8 inches, it's still somewhat easy to manipulate for bushcrsfting.

Those are what I found too. Awesome blade imho. I think it would make a great fighter first blade.

That's what I was thinking too . . . The length, thickness, weight, and handle style make me think it would be excellent for survival tasks also. I imagine it would have the chopping power of SYKCO 711 or Basic 8L.E

Chopping not so much imo. The sar 8 I owned was very well balanced. Taking weight away from the tip area would make it a bit less efficient imo. I'd love to be proven wrong

Let's see. Of the blades I've owned, I think the standard sfno would compare nicely.

I'm sure though, that if you give your wrists good snap at the end it would work pretty hard for you

Well, if a fighter is first priority, original mojo is far superior to persian for me. I like the usefulness of my hands so having a blade catch to save one of them should something go terribly wrong, yet double as a church key the remaining 100% of the time I am not fighting with a knife. ;) Lightweight FFG that still chops extremely well while maintaining perfect balance with plenty of strength. Quite possibly the best fighter that can be used for other things I have used.

Awesome !! Thanks for the suggestion --- will definitely keep it in mind. Cheers!

Sorry, but since the WW1 the swordplay is off the table as far as knife fighting is concerned.
Wild slashes and chops with a large blade (overcommiting due to size/weight/momentum) will get you bleeding out in the gutter when you go against someone with a 3.5-5 inch bladed knife.
You might fare well against zombies of most pre-The Walking Dead times, but some of TWD ones are just a bit too fast, especially when facing a group of them...

Not a knife, but what about a KDSH? Seems like it would accomplish the goals you listed.

I wasn't that interested in one before, but after getting one, I was very surprised how much I liked it (and still do).

An infi version would be very nice, but there are YouTube videos of the KDSH in some extreme use situations, like chopping a car in half....

And, you could pair it with a knife for an even deadlier combo.

Elof ---- thanks for the reply, but it seems like you might be mistaken. The SAS and other forces still use blades that are on the "longer" side (e.g Khukri). I'll definitely send you an invite when I'm ready to play fairytale zombie slashing in my mother's basement ;)

Solid suggestion --- the KDSH looks to be certainly capable of properly trained with and given the right situations. Cheers!
