Sar 8 Persian Variant Questions

And then there's this.

Rob, if you do buy a Persian off someone, just don't type "Persian" in the memo section if you're using PayPal. It's a terrorist trigger word and it'll get your transaction "embargoed" for a few extra days. It happened to me when I purchased a Spyderco Persian.

Persian blade shapes are very aesthetically pleasing to most eyes. Very beautiful. They are very useful in smaller folding knives. I have a William Henry and some Spyderco's. I have no experience with them in larger fixed blades.

Seems to me you were pretty set on getting one...did you ever score?

Hey Pete!

Thanks for the heads up! I'm sure it doesn't help that I'm ethnically Persian! Totally ridiculous if you ask me, but I'll save the political stuff for another day and another more appropriate forum.

I held off on picking one up to do some more research on its functionality. The minimal research I did led me to an interesting comparison. The Becker BK-7 got a lot of heat/criticism for not being an effective survival tool. The reasons provided were related to blade weight/thickness and grind. However, just about everyone who's used it for a long duration -- found it to be phenomenal as multi functional "light" survival blade.

Now the Persian design and the BK-7 are not quite the same, but the concept still holds true. I have A LOT of different knives, but I've yet to own a dedicated "Persian Style" knife. I was hoping to make it a fun alternative hike knife that allowed me as the user to quickly deploy and stab any 4 legged mammals that popped out (Bobcats, Mountain Lions, Coyotes, etc.). I also wanted to make sure that it was strong/rigid/thick enough to baton with. Coyotes in my area have become much more aggressive. In fact I was charged by 3 Coyotes one morning while jogging (with NO KNIFE, which will never happen again).

As for Busse designs, I know that there's the Taliwhacker, Sar 8 Persian Variant, Tank Buster Persian Variant, ST-56 Persian Fighter, and some other variants that resemble that design. I wanted to see how my fellow Hogs felt about using it as a "light" or "minimalist" jack of all trades knife. Ideally -- 7-9 inch range (.18-.25 thick).

On a side note --- if Persian is becoming a terrorist trigger word --- be wary of Kabobs, Carpets, Cats, and Loud Lavish Weddings ;)
