Have a SAR coming.. What do you guys use your SARs for? Anyone use theirs for hunting/skinning?

Wow, great snag!!

Definitely one of my favorites. I've used mine quite a bit and taken it hunting, but never got to use it on game. My SAR and my Ratweiler are always in my truck.

Here's mine when it was new - the camo's all gone now (any excuse to post some pics, huh? :D ).

Man, nice pics!! Would you think its suitable for edc?

Nice Ruger too.. :)

The answer to that depends on you. Your size and everyday needs are two considerations. Also, in case you haven't handled one of these yet, they are thick. Holding one makes you feel like you could cut your way out of a tank and that is no joke. As such, it might be overkill for envelope opening, but if you need to split a stump in half, this is the right Swamp Rat to play with other than maybe a large chopper.

Thanks, guys!

Talon, OTE is right, it all depends on your parameters for an EDC. It is one of the best feeling/handling Rats (may have been the best before the HRLM came out ;) ).

The SAR is a litte chunky, so can be harder to hide than some knives. If you can carry it in the open, it'd be hard to beat.

It does feel indestuctible, but can slice well, too. With SR-101, the edge can be thinned a bit for better cutting while still being tough. Awesome combo.

Man, nice snag! You'll love it. You're going to need to thin out the edge if you want to skin with it. It's more of a sharp pry-bar than skinner, but as said above, you can thin it down and it'll still be tough enough for anything you can throw at it.

I had an SAR once... :(

Hi Talon, I'll second this assessment. It was designed for people who use knives as much or more for random unexpected tasks than for cutting. I relegate mine to an urban survival kit. I feel that it's too much knife for every day use, being so thick (my opinion, ymmv). Thinner profile blades in the same dimentional category, such as the Leaner Meaner Street, make much better EDC blades for boxes, packing bands, and even hunting and fishing. But when you need to bust a lock on an insulin fridge or open a locked door or window to a fire escape stair the SAR is a great choice. So chances are I'll never use mine. But chances are most cops will never use their guns in the line of duty. Patroling without one is unthinkable though. The SAR really does make a great choice of knife when you can't predict your mode of use.

The nice pics made me get 2 more variations!! Cant wait to get them back once their pants are done.. Would love to hear more about those that use their SARs and pics of used ones would be awesome! :)

He made it sound like he got them recently. Just wondering where from. Seems like an excellent blade. I could get a lot of use out of one.

Deadhead Archer is right, they are only available on the secondary market. Got mine on the for sale forums right here, just keep a lookout for one... They seem to pop out every now and then.

Dang. I really want one. Dang.
Around how much do they sell for? I would pay a premium for one. Anyone have one that is begging for some use?

Wow. What a great looking knife! I love a fatty clip point. It really does seem to be an "anything" knife.

Grats!
