SAR Rat Usage?

For Talon - here's a few pics I took today at work. Same one as in pics above:

Greg45, thanks for the pics!! Used Rats certainly look better..... Nice edge you got there, did you thin it on a stone? Your edge looks like it would slice very well!

Thanks!

The edge is thinned a bit, but not too much. About a year and a half ago, I splurged on an EdgePro Apex, and it's one of the best investments I've made. It gives the most repeatable, consistently awesome edges I've ever seen.

I think I am finally going to get one!:D I'll beat it like a red-headed stepchild. (Which isn't good, because a lady just did in my area.):(

Awesome!! I saw where you snagged one on the exchange...you'll love it!

Greg45, with your new edge, have you used it on game yet? Judging from the looks of yours, am sure it will skin well even though its 1/4" thick!(especially with its flat grind.)

I haven't used it on game yet, although I wouldn't hesitate to.

The edge does help with slicing, but the design of the knife and the grinds on the blade make it a much more graceful knife than you may think. Besides the full-height flat grind, it's got a gentle width taper starting at about the mid-point of the blade.

I've owned several "sharpened prybars" before, and they're too clumsy feeling. This ain't one of 'em.

It may be best just to wait and see what shape the edge is in before you decide. If it needs work, then you can decide if you want to thin it or not. If it's pretty sharp, you might just want to use it for a while and see how you like it.

Keep in mind that thinning the edge can be done no matter what kind of edge you have - convex or V-shape. Also, an edge doesn't have to be thinned out to be sharp. What kind of edge you want, convex/V-grind; thick/thin will depend on your uses for the knife.
