SAR3 vs. BAD vs. GW - thoughts?

Will,

sar 3 le .68"

Gw .140 snake .64"

.150 saber original ad .59"

BAD .59"

I'd say no real difference other than that expected due to thickness of blade. I will say the #'s vary too depending on where you measure etc...

I don't have a BAD but I compared my SAR-3 to my Black Tie Warden on the WSS forum. Here were my thoughts...

I've only had the SAR-3 for a few hours so my impression is not based on use, but IMO the handle of the SAR offers a bit more secure feel owing to the extra length and reverse belly. I also appreciate the extra 1/2" of cutting edge on the SAR compared to the GW. Aesthetically, the SAR-3 wins for me as well but that's totally subjective. Where my Game Warden prevails is in it's much more acute tip and the fact that it came screaming sharp from Busse. The blade on the SAR-3 doesn't distally taper as much as the GW and thus has a fairly blunt tip. It was barely shaving sharp and could definitely use a good stropping. All in all, I think I prefer the SAR-3 but not by much. I think they are both great little indestructible EDCs.

Thanks for helping me out, pard.

I do appreciate it.

I'm finding the SAR3 to be a very nice small knife.

A few thoughts...
- With the GW I always had a pinky hanging off the handle but with the SAR3 my whole hand fits... I like that a lot.
- The jimping adds to control and the fit and finish is top notch... I like that.
- The top part of the square butt doesn't dig my palm although it is not quite as comfy as the AD... I prefer the AD drop tail.
- But, the squared off butt gives you something to push against if you need to puncture something... I like that.
- There's a lot of grip in the machined scales... I like that.
- The tiny choil and talon hole gives you more blade... I like that too.

Overall, a great addition to the family.

Anybody else with a SAR3 notice this?

Yeah, I noticed that too. As I heard somewhere on this thread (I think), the SAR 3 is a lot less "stabbier". Both of the LEs I ordered came into today, and I just got done sharpening them, and the tip still feels blunt.

Besides that, love the knife! Can't wait to get a sheath and start using it as an EDC and a piggy back to the FFBM.

I also agree with Mike H considering the choices he was given. Mike , sir, would your opinion change if the cult where added to the list of options?

Seeing the other comments heres my two cents Guy .

THe tip is a little thicker on the sar 3 than the GW but that is due to the the knife starting at .160 instead of .14 but mainly due to the flat grind and square spine. I think the NM treatment, convex edge, and extra thickness attribute to the difference. I also dont see this as a negative either considering the users/usuall expectations of Busse owners. THe three le's I received are all hair popping sharp and the tip with cut your butt. THe edge is much more robust and provide much more strength without two much restriction or negativity. I would have no fear of taking a hammer to the butt and drving in through metal if I had too:rolleyes: and then hammer the spine to cut it out. Just my thoughts. YMMV

I'd think a stouter tip would be preferable on a Search And Rescue knife... and I really like how Busse is using the convex edge more often nowdays.
