SAR4LE Vs. Elk

What are the details? Weight, weapon used, where you got him, story of how you got him, guided or unguided hunt, etc.??? I know, I'm high maintenance, but you can't just post a single pic and expect that the hunters here won't be curious. :)

Oh, and congrats on your score!

OK, Guestimated live weight 700 pounds, nice little 4X5 bull. Savage 111 .338 Win. Mag. Got him about 10 minutes from my house outside Salmon, Idaho, Bitteroot mountain range, Unguided, (I know the neighborhood lol).

Thanks for the info. It sounds like you hardly broke a sweat getting him, though. Good for you! Now if I could only do something like that down here...

Man, that is one nice young bull to fill a freezer with. Congratulations!

Great pic of your processing area and the hanging carcass--looks like you have some choice equipment to maneuver him around during the butchering process. Sure beats boning him out in the bottom of a canyon and humping the meat out.

I'll be hunting the far side of the ridge in the picture below, a little off to the right, in about two weeks. Took this picture yesterday, and I could hear a bull bugling when I took it. It's getting very late in the rut here, though--will only last a few more days even this far south--Sacramento Mtns in southern NM. About ten miles from my house.

I can only hope I do as well!

Beautiful country Will; I had a little piece of land outside of White Oaks back when I lived in the Las Cruces area. Good Luck on your hunt!

You definitely know the country, then. That part of the Jicarillas north of White Oaks and the Capitans off to the east are prime elk country.

I like hunting the heads of the canyons in the White Mtn Wilderness up high near the Mescalero reservation boundary. The Apaches manage their herd for some serious trophies, as you know, and I keep thinking one of these days one of those 400 B&C monsters is going to forget where he is and stumble onto me back in that thick, rough stuff. I've seen some nice bulls in there, but have yet to meet The One. :D

Nice one!!! I was wondering how a Sars blade would work on game. Thanks for the pics!

congrats on the elk & thanks for the pics.hope to get mine next weekend here in wash.

I've used my HG-55 on both Whitetails I've shot this season and it does an excellent job, although it's a little bigger than what I'm used to using, it does way better than my old Buck 102.

Your white, handlebar mustache is so awesome that I'm questioning my own manhood in it's presence. lol

Great pics BShift... my trigger finger has been twitching since the first lil' cold (cool) front hit here in S. TX...

There is nothing like hunting season... by far my favorite time of year.
