I just stuck my 2 minute old orange Sar8 in my new Mashed Cat.. and its stuck. I couldnt get it out without bashing my elbows or slicing my fingers. Anyone else have this problem? How can I remedy it once I get it out?

Contact Eric... I'm sure he can walk you through it.

Is it stuck on the handle or the blade?

A hairdryer or hot water will loosen up the kydex and allow it to be removed. It may mess up the sheath, but I'm sure Eric will take care of it.

I should point out that since Busse's vary in thickness, it is difficult to get a 'one size fits all' fit with kydex. Leather will stretch, kydex will not. Your knife may be thicker stock (lucky you) than the maker's sample used to make your sheath, thus the tight fit. It happens. ;) :D

:eek:SEE, it goes to show you not to be sticking things where they don't belong!;)

I had the same problem with my DIY waki sheath - I heated the sheath with a hair dryer enough to get the blade out, then wrapped a layer of masking tape around the blade before heating the sheath again to re-insert the blade. This stretched it out enough to get a much better fit. YMMV.

Just got my MashedCat SAR-8 sheath from BCS this afternoon - my SAR-8 LE didn't get stuck, but it WAS hard to extract from the sheath, took some real effort, far more that my SAR-4 LE requires with its MashedCAT. When I tried my SAR-4 LE in the SAR-8 sheath, it came out a little easier than my SAR-8, but not by much. The tightness seems to be limited the the handle area - naturally, since I've heard that MashedCats don't really touch the blade areas to avoid scratches. It's probably an unfortunate combination of individual variations - a little thicker handle on the knife, a little smaller sheath opening where it grips and locks in the handle. I guess I'll have to do the tape and hairdryer thing. Good Luck!

Sorry to hear about the issue you are having with your sheath. The best way to fix this would be to send the knife and sheath to me for adjustment of the handle retention.

If you would rather try to fix it yourself I can help you there too, you can give me a call @ 208-949-4031 I will walk you through some tips.

If anyone else is having any similar issues please get a hold of me through my web site located in my signature line.

I will be more than happy and ready to answer or help with any issues that arise with my work.

Thanks for the heads up!
Eric

i really don't understand the slice thing that people talk about. if a person grabs a sheath with his left hand up by the throat of the sheath be it leather or kydex you will most likely get cut. when sheathed on your belt you can't or shouldn't have to do that with any sheath.

oku or mashedcat are made to be pushed off with your thumb, or at least that's how i was taught to do it.
anyway, for safety sake if anybody feels the need to use two hands then i would definitely grab the sheath in the center and below the throat.

You have probably got a fatter than average SAR8:thumbup:
Sometimes there is a lot of variation in blade thickness.

Ah... where to start?

Well I would normally just push it off with my thumb. This thing is stuck so hard I need a really good grip. It still hasn't come out and I'm afraid with the amount of force I'm pulling on it, God know where the blade will go when released.

I'll try calling eric, an maybe do the hairdryer thing.

When my waki got stuck, I weaved some cord through the bottom couple of eyelets, tied it off to something sturdy, and gave it a good pull. The cord was able to hold the sheath a lot more effectively than my hand.
