Looking to purchase an all around knife to use for camping, game processing...etc. Is isn't intended to be a chopper, although would like to use if in a pinch or as a replacement for my EDC. Narrowed down the choices to the Sarge-7 and the TGLB. This will be my first Busse, but not my last. A chopper is next, along with a smaller knife for finer jobs like skinning game, cleaning fish and birds (missed Sly's Culti which would have been ideal).

I like the full guard on the TGLB since it reminds me of the K-bar I've been carrying for over three decades. Blade width and length are similar on both models, but the TGLB seems stouter and perhaps more appropriate to be used as a chopper in a pinch. Sarge-7 is definitely a sleeker knife and expect it would have an advantage of control when used for finer tasks.

Haven't confirmed availability of the Sarge-7, which may dictate which one I go with, but wanted to throw it out for comment. Either model have a distinct advantage as an all around knife or is it really a wash?

Just confirmed with Busse Company Store that the Sarge-7 isn't available but should be later once the site it back up. Looks like availability has made the decision for me, but frankly think both are winners.

The profile of the Sarge 7 is definitely growing on me. I typically have always had full guards on my fixed blade knives, other than my skinners, but not a must have. Can't find much info on weights, but since the TGLB is a 1/3 of a lb lighter than the original TG, should come in around 15oz. Expect either would be easy carry knives.

Something tells me, I will end up with both

Great looking knives. So far I've come up with four knives that I can legitimately use on a frequent basis, but I can slowly feel rationale thought becoming less and less important as I become more familiar with the Busse line.

Ive owned both. TGLB is the better knife and looks cooler. I think its my favorite busse Ive owned along with the NMFBM and ASH 1 skinny

Better knife in what sense? For a particular task? Better flexibility for multiple uses?

I'll be ordering the TGLB tomorrow once I settle on the configuration, but curious on your experiences with both.

I disagree with the TGLB being a better knife. Between the two, if I were going into combat, I'd take the TGLB. If I were going camping, I take my SARGE 7. It's blade geometry is better for most cutting and chopping around a campsite. One of my SAR 6s usually makes it to the woods too.

I think the TG has a better overall feel. It feels more balanced and lighter and faster in hand. What really makes the TG special performance wise is the thin grind. Its a quarter inch thick knife but can slice and cut very well, especially if uncoated. I never did a side by side comparison of TG and sarge but I think they are fairly similar in the chopping department. Neither are big time choppers, more all around utility blades/ camp knives.

I never really liked the handle on the sarge and its probably not as good of a cutter. Alot of this is personal preference though and you may have to get both and decide which you like best :)

I gotta go with the tglb.....i was looking for a combat knife that could go from the battlefield to the trail with perfect transition. It also has that traditional styling I like and it just makes you feel good knowing its there for you when everything else fails

I think this topic has come up several times.

I have both, and would say that the edge geommetry on my CF TGLB is about the same as my satin SARGE-7. but that the coated TGLB I have has a thicker edge.

The biggest difference is the double guard, though. If that's what you want in a knife, then I think you've already made your decision.

I'd think that either of those knives would be pretty difficult to EDC without much fuss. Something smaller like a Boss Jack would be a much better size for EDC and the other roles you mentioned. These are no longer in production, but you can find them on the exchange pretty regularly at good prices.

Garth: Have to agree with you. Each has a place in the arsenal and doubt I'll have much regret when I do pick up both.

Also agree as a daily carry, it would be a little big. I prefer a folder for that purpose, but I can see either strapped to my hip when I'm out in the mountains.

I'd think the Sarge7 is the better camp knife, but the TGLB has that secure feel in your hand.

If the Team Gemini and the Sarge 7 got in a fight. The Team Gemini would make the Sarge his Bi@@h.

Therefore I choose Team Gemini.

I don't have any experience with the Sarge, but I've really appreciated the TGLB's double guard on several occasions. The TGLB is roughly 1.6 times larger than the Ka-Bar in every way. The grip on the TGLB is large enough and shaped in a way that it has two distinct grip positions... But I've never been accused of having huge hands.

It's definitely not a "fine work" knife, but for something that chops, I can't think of a better compromise.

Both great. I like the 7 better as a knife. Tglb is just cool and a great knife

+ 1, if I had to pick one, the SAR 7 would be my choice, TGLB is a cool knife and the ergo on the handle is excellent but for some reason I see the TGLB knife as a combat/tactical knife (maybe because the double guard). This does not mean that you can't use it for other tasks of course.
