I really do like my Balance Yvsa, but I'm extra happy that Raghorn was able to get one too. He sounded pretty dissappointed after I pounced on mine in so ducklike fashion, bwahaha. Still, if Mike's luck had turned out different, I'd of made him an offer he couldn't refuse on the Balance. I'm still so full of joy at getting back my magic Sirupati.
Hey Yvsa, here's a project for you. Pick a khuk, any khuk, and remove it and it's karda and chakma from the scabbard. Now look at the scabbard throat from the top. Between the two leather collars for the karda and chakma are two "V" shaped openings. The rearmost of the two "V's" is perfect for slipping a nice wee awl into. By carving the handle down to a flattened oval cross section, it doesn't interfere at all with the fit of the karda/chakma. Mine's got a handle carved from French boxwood, and a bit carefully ground from a chainsaw file. You guessed it, this awl is also a very effective burnishing steel for my khuk. Many folks can't appreciate the utility of a good awl, but I'm betting you know the score.

Yup!!!! I shore do!!!! That's why the YCS has an awl, only a three cornered one so as to not rip material so bad when punctured.
I did a similar thing to my GRS, took one of the original partial tang Kumar Karda's and fitted another loop of leather in the same area to hold it.
Now it has a short & long karda as well as the chakma.
I do like your idea and will probably incorporate it into a couple of my rigs one day.
I keep hoping and praying that I will someday be able to get back into my beloved woods and fields!!!!
