Sarge Knife and Kumar Karda for 12/27

Thanks for posting, made my night.

Yep! Cant wait to see it done. Thats definitely going to be a fine looking blade! The Kamis cant make these handles polished to 2000 plus grit or they would go out of business. Its so cool to see you guys that are willing to bring out the best in these exceptional pieces of wood and then post them. I think the Kamis would love to see what we have done to their pieces. Kinda wish they had puters and such so we could show them. You know they would respect it that much more:thumbup:

Thanks for the kind words guys! The color is hard to see properly in those pics, but the 3d is closest to how it looks in person. This wood is BLONDE!! Ndog, I was gonna keep it at 240 grit so I hit it with some BLO, then a day later decided to go up to 1500 since the oil brought out some amazing grain patterns. But in the higher grits, the brass on the butt was getting on the sandpaper and into some pores on the wood, causing little black dots. Likely because I was impatient and oiled it. So I think I'll keep it there and let it polish up naturally with more oil and use.

Let me tell ya how to remedy that. 240 is my starting point. First like you said dont oil it till your done. On some of the lighter woods you might notice how the brass bleeds into the woods as we buy them completed by the Kamis. When you sand the final coats sand off the edge of the buttplate and keep wiping your paper clean on a piece of denim or t-shirt. Change you paper if needed. When your sanding at the butt plate sand along the axis of the knife only rather than sanding around the circumference of the handle. This will keep from concentrating the metalic debris right there next to the butt plate. Sand off the edge of the butt plate (Start on the wood then sand off the brass). Keep the paper clean then you will see clean wood right up to the metal. Kinda hard to explain but hope this helps. If you hold paper in one hand cupped around the butt end and twist the blade with the other trying to sand the area then the metalic debris has nowhere to go but into the neighboring wood right there next to where it came from and into the pits you described. Dont do that! Seems logical but you need to spread out the metalic debris so it cant be seen. If you dont oil it then you can blow the debris clean with compressed air and hen oil it and it will show lots of color. Dont know how old you are but if you remember developing SX-70 Polaroid instant film then you dont know squat till the film is developed right there in your face. Do it right then in the end you will be amazed. Its so cool to see in the end when you finally wipe on the oil! Thats the way i do it but YMMV! ENJOY!

Exactly why I'm sending you the Bura, I hope you're as honored as I am.
Jay
Like I said Ill do My dangdest to remember to send it back to ya:D When I hear Bura.... sumpin in my brain triggers tellin me you ought to hang on to it like them big banks do with your money or as long as you can get away with it then when your eyes got enuff I reckon you better send it back or else some administrative nut bigger than thou is gonna be makin you do it anywaz right;)

Ndog, makes perfect sense. I was trying to be careful and not sanding across the grain near the butt, but I wasn't being careful enough. Definitely need to clean off the sandpaper more. It's only got a couple coats of BLO, and it's still looking very thirsty. I think I'll try being patient and letting the oil soak a little deeper, then go back at it as you said.

I'm 23 now, old enough to remember Polaroids being used but past their prime. I was back when every single baby moment got recorded on a camcorder... talk about a waste of magnetic tape :D

I've got another handle-related question but I'm gonna email you

I was 23 once I think, long ways back to recollect. I think tin types were in vogue back in those days.

BB sending a Bura to Ndog? And I thought we was pals? We need to start seeing other people.
I'll be ok really I will. Few minutes on the floor thumb inserted in mouth and I'll be fine, really.

I'm hoping one day he sends me one too :b

Speaking of sending people stuff, I've got this gorgeous Lachuu AKB with boring horn handle scales on it... ;)

Is this a riddle? If your dropping hints on me like an 80# anvil, knock it off and shoot me a message. I know somebody that knows somebody that can cure boring in most cases.

Anybody else get the urge to just send off their Bura and go on vacation or sumpin Im your man! Im applying for my Bura day Khare Khukri License. Should have it soon:D
