I originally posted this on the Emerson forum but only had 1 response (thanks tuboflard).

Anway their was an article recently in Tactical Knives about the orgin of the SARK. Saying it was in response to a knife failure being used by some Navy rescue personal involved in a helicopter recovery operation.

I was just curious, as to what brand and which model, of knife it was and why it failed, lock, steel, handle?

BTW IMHO if you compare the SARK to Spyderco's Rescue or Cold Steel's. Either one should out cut that thick bladed chisel grind (not even fully serrated, either). Also wouldn't it's curved blade make sawing though something really thick, akward?

But I guess it wins in the coolness factor with, the Wave opening device. And the handles have better ergonomics and are stronger.
