Ok, so I did it. I put my NMSFNO for auction on Ebay. It kills me to do it, but I don't have the budget for two Busse's at this time. Last time I posted I was contemplating trading for a Sarsquatch. The reason being, I wanted to go "carry friendly. I got some awesome feedback from you guys, but I would like to know if it's a small enough knife to have on me at all times while camping/hiking. I want something small enough to carry, but also big and tough enough for big chores. the NMSFNO was just too big/ heavy. I realize the squatch is only a bit small, and thinner, but part of me is justifying it because I just love the way they look:) Anyway, I was thinking tankbuster may be my best bet at this point too. Looking forward to the feedback again. If Jaxx and bigfatty are out there, I'd love to hear from ya. Thanks alot guys.

I think the SARSquatch is a great knife. Thinner, lighter than the NMSFNO, but plenty tough. And, if you are patient, you can probably pick up a bargain user on the Exchange.

If NMSFNO was a little too big/heavy, the SarSquatch may also be for you - it's a bit lighter, but it's still a big blade...

If you want a big knife for your belt I'd give the Skinny ASH a real hard look - same thickness as SarSquatch but with a shorter blade...

It's a tough call - I personally would keep the NMSFNO if I had to pick from the blades mentioned above... I know this isn't much help, but def consider the Skinny ASH.

Hmm, I definitely will consider the skinny. Anyone know the weight comparison between the nmsfno and the sarsquatch? Resinguy, do you have a sarsquatch?

Trailwolf, all feedback is much appreciated. Busse knives are such a bad addiction. But they really are worth the money. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to own more than one, so I need one that I'm likely to carry but able to do all chores.

Also, if anyone has both, could you post a comparison picture? That would help alot. (Sasquatch and NMSFNO)

Hi :)

Although the NMSFNO is heavier, its difference from the 'Squatch is not by much...mebbe a couple of ounces, and the Tank Buster I pulled out to see felt about the same as a 'Squatch. (The TB is a CG version with G-10 handles). If you really want a light knife, TrailWolf's suggestion of the Skinny ASH is the way to go. It is the lightest of the 4.

Although smaller than the above mentioned knives, I'm a big fan of the BATAC. It is small enough to carry comfortably and can do most anything in the hands of a person who knows what they are doing. It's very tough and can handle all the batonning that any other Busse can take and I consider it to be a "jack of all trades" style knife.. It or the Skinny ASH might be at the top of a list for me where weight and comfort are major issues.

The SARsquatch or the SFNO & SFNO LE would be next up if weight were less of an issue and a little more length were needed.

If I were camping more and hiking less, but knew that some chopping would have to be done to gather firewood, the NMSFNO would be the "one knife" choice.

I haven't broken in a TB yet, so I don't know where this one would fit in my personal lineup.

Give me a few minutes and I'll get you a pic of your requested knives.

Thanks Jaxx, I always look forward to your responses. This might sound lame, but you hogs out there will understand; There's just something EXTREMELY aesthetically pleasing about the sarsquatch to me, which is also one of the reasons I want one so bad. So now I guess it's between the Squatch and skinny ASH.

Hey, we get it! That's why we're here. :D We all have at least one favorite, and the 'Squatch is as comfortable as it looks.
Here ya go. All five mentioned on this thread in one fairly crappy pic, LOL! :o All are lined up at the top of the handle...well, almost...the BATAC is a little forward of the rest, sorry!

Top to bottom:
CG NMSFNO, .220" thick
CF SARsquatch, .187" thick
Skinny ASH-1, .187" thick
CG Tank Buster, .250" thick
CG Badger Attack TAC (CGBATAC), .187" thick

Jaxx, is it hard to maintain that competition finish on the Sarsquatch? I've heard of them oxidizing a bit. I think they look so good. My NMSFNO maintains a good edge, but I don't think it's a very sharp grind. It does it's job very well, but isn't shaving sharp. It cuts paper fine, but I'd like it to be razor sharp. How is the Sarsquatch in that department? (I'm not grind/sharpening savvy as you can tell)

Yeah... The decarb layer on the CF SARsquatch will oxidize and rust. I have several and with the exception of this one they all have rust on them, even just from sitting in a climate controlled house.

The one in the pic is the one I chose to make a user, so I used Mothers Mag polish on it several times, and occasionally since to not only keep the rust at bay, but to wear off the decarb. Only the decarb layer is rust prone, and on the ones that have rust, you can see the well defined line where the edge grind cuts through the decarb and meets the true INFI steel...not a bit of rust past this point on any of mine. :)

The CF 'Squatches are convex zero ground and mine has a screaming sharp edge. Maintaining them is pretty easy with a mousepad and some fine grit sandpaper, like 600 grit for touch ups and 1500 grit for some fine tuning/polishing.

There are coated SARsquatches too, and these have V-ground bevels if you find those easier to maintain than convex ground knives. I can get them sharp, even shaving sharp, but the convex ground edged ones will still be the sharper ones unless you reprofile the edge.

If I WASN'T Gonna go for the 'Squatch I'd totally take the ASH!!!
IMHO I NEED an ASH (fatty .32) THEN a NMSFNO and then the Squatch.

I just got a competition finish SQ and am very pleased with it. It out chops my Camp Tramp by a step or two although the CT batons better. For me, the weight is fine as a hiker- I know opinions vary, but for me the 7" is the all rounder size- but lot's of great blades in the 5" range if you want to knock down more weight.

I also had a skinny ash briefly- it was a nice knife but I struggled with it. I got crazy pinky burn from it and the big/small small/big knife size was a little odd for me. But, lots of folks love their Ash's.

Get the 'squatch. You won't regret it, and you will always wonder if you don't get it. I have one, and it gets alot of trail time. Good luck.

Also, whatever you get, if you don't like it you should be able to sell it on here and get most, if not all, of your mulah back.

If it's not too late, you may want to pull your NMSFNO from the bay and put it up here - I'd be pretty certain you'd get more money for it...

The Squatch is a great all arounder. It is only beat out by the BATAC and DSSF for me.

That's a great pic of your sarsquatch in action. I also like the pic Ban put up after his awesome mod on that last one he did for someone around here.
I'm also looking forward to getting one. :)
