Sarquatch

That's a great pic of your sarsquatch in action. I also like the pic Ban put up after his awesome mod on that last one he did for someone around here.
I'm also looking forward to getting one. :)

Thanks! I don't have either of my Squatches anymore, but will again someday when my money tree blooms.;)

I wanted to go "carry friendly. I got some awesome feedback from you guys, but I would like to know if it's a small enough knife to have on me at all times while camping/hiking. I want something small enough to carry, but also big and tough enough for big chores. the NMSFNO was just too big/ heavy.

I do not mean to seem like I am sharpshooting here but I look at carrying knives in a similar way to carrying guns -- a different holster can make a world of difference.

So...

If the knife is too heavy in its current carry method -- how about trying a different way?

Maybe buy a stiffer belt that is more supporting? Comp-Tac gun belts are the best IMHO.

Would a Baldric-style carry work for you?

part of me is justifying it because I just love the way they look:).

I gotcha there! Sometimes you've just gotta try something because you love the look of it. I had a Sarsquatch for a bit but sold it -- it just didn't go it for me.

If you are truly looking for a way to maximize knife weight versus performance try out the Terror Monkey Desert Storm Fighter (TM-DSF), or Desert Storm Stealth Fighter (DSSF) -- they are .22 thick with an 8" blade, weigh 14.5 ounces, and are perfectly balanced. I am getting rid of all my Busse and Kin to fund more TM-DSF and DSSFs because for me, this is the ultimate all around knife.

I love the ASH, but only in the chunky .32 - that's a great combo of features IMO.

I've used and chopped with the ASH a lot, and I bet the Squatches are more comfortable to use...

Get a Sarsquatch for your intended uses.

I "broke in" my Sarsquatch last night, splitting logs into kindling and I was very impressed with how well it handled for a smaller big knife. Still shaving sharp after being batonned through some hard firewood!

Go for the Squatch!

You won't be disappointed. It's got a different feel from the NMSFNO. To me it's noticeably lighter in use and in carry. The NMSFNO is the better chopper, but the Squatch will chop.

The decarb is no problem to take care on the CF models if you don't want it there. It can be sanded off by hand without too much trouble.

I have both the ASH-1 and Skinny ASH, and the standard SARsquatch (which I've convexed). I think the 'squatch is the best camp knife of the bunch.

Stay sharp,

Good luck trying to chop wood with a TB or skinny ASH! I took my CF Sarsquatch camping in Kerrville this past weekend and honestly, it wasn't a good enough chopper either. For a regular trail knife, I think the Sarsquatch is a little on the heavy side, but that may be because I rock mine in a Chuddy leather sheath. If you put yours in kydex or thinner leather, you could probably save some weight there. For a camp knife in terms of chopping wood as part of its tasks, I'd say just use a machete or go up one level to HOGFSH or FBM. I love the Squatch as an all-around knife. If I had to hike all day with a knife, I would choose something smaller, like a TB. If I had to chop wood, I'd go bigger. But in terms of a mid-size all-around knife I don't have to carry all-day, I love the Squatch. As for your sharpness question, I found my Squatch got dull rather quickly on this camping trip, and didn't baton that well. Sharpness is a matter of putting a screaming edge on it rather than an issue with any particular knife, but edge retention is something else and I was a little dissapointed in the CF Squatch. Good news is I can send it to Busse or elsewhere to get the edge put back on it.

I finally bought a CF Sarsquatch on the forum here for $280 with a kydex sheath (looks like Okuden). Definitely couldn't pass up on that deal. I should have it in hand by week's end. I'm stoked! Thanks to everyone for giving their input. Now I just have to collect my money from my NMSFNO which is on ebay right now for WAY less than it should be. I think it's got a few days left...I know I'll miss it too. Thanks again guys! Special thanks to Jaxx for the picture comparison

That's a great deal! I scored a user for $240, and that was w/o a sheath, so did you real good.

The Busse market is really soft right now, great for buyers, not so good for sellers.

Argg you beat me to it by just alittle. I kept looking at it but waited to long to jump. Congrats on the sarsquatch.

As much as I love my SARsquatches, my fully convexed NMSFNO will out chop them big time. It is the undisputed king of my 8" choppers, and it took on some good ones. I love the NMSFNO!

Thank you NATO. I had pondered it for a while before I decided to pull the trigger, but I had to make the decision to part with my NMSFNO as you know. I think I'll be happier with this for my uses. If I don't like it I'll sell it to you, lol.

Horn dog, I think I came across a review you did on 6-8 in camp knives. Keep up the good work. I like what you did to your squatch too!

Now the next piece I have my eye on (once I round up a few bucks) is a BRKT Bravo 1, unless you guys think there's a comparable Busse for around $200 that's as good/sharp/easy to maintain/good for keeping on me at all times.

Congrats! Sounds like you got a pretty decent deal on it too.

...And you're absolutely welcome. Glad I could help! :)

I still think you should highly consider pulling your NMSFNO from the Bay... It's just such a sweet blade... ;)

+1 The DSF and the NMSFNO make a nice little set.

I see the problem there. You need a FSH/HHFSH. The Fusion handle makes for a better chopper, IMO.
