I had a few new belts on hand but only in 80 and 120 grit, so I tried the 120, figured once I smoothed it out I would go shopping for finer grits to finish with. I used two belts. The first one was on the grinder and was lightly used, the second one is on now and still has life in it. The finish with the 120 looked just a bit heavier than my RMD LE finish that I have, I wanted it a little finer, so after roughing out the scales with the same 120 belt, it was dusted up pretty good with micarta so I thought I'll try a few quick passes and I loved the finish so I stopped. So if you can believe it I only used 120 grit, I'm still in disbelief so I'll understand if you don't I still plan to go shopping for a better assortment of grits though.
The polished convex was done on three seperate strops loaded with black, white and green compound. From Sears too, about 3 bucks a bar.

What did you use to flare the tubing for the rivets?
