I picked this up at Borders this afternoon: the pocket handbook version of the SAS Survival Guide. This little book is 384 pages of pure awesomeness! It's packed to the brim with incredibly useful information. I've been meaning to grab a copy for awhile now, and finally found it. There is a ton of info for the price.

It has everything from full-color plant identification to making a fire plow to volcano safety! If you don't have this little book yet, I would highly recommend it. It's just the right size to complement your medium-sized survival kit or BOB.:thumbup:

+1 on Lofty's book!

I only have the larger version, but do plan on getting the smaller on in the future! -Matt-

I don't leave home without it!

I, too, have one, as well as the large size one from about 1982. I remember the approximate date because I went to an Eaton's store at the request/order of my current, at the time, GF, who suggested (lol) that I buy some new shoes. When I got there they had this great 1/2 price knife sale going on, and I came back with a Gerber MK II in L6.

Yes, I remember that quite well...................

Me too, I bought the original big paperback, then saw the little one a few years later. Gave copies to brother etc. Always in a ziploc in my kit. Read it over and over while waiting in doc waiting rooms, whatever. Usefull knowledge but also a mental boost to be reminded there was more out there than blood tests and meds.

Hey, what is this? "Hey Doc you're old" Week?

I gotta sit down. :(

Doc

Hey, we all love our favorite surrogate granddad! Without you, who would we have to correct us on trap-building technique and obscure facts about the woods that will inevitably be needed the day after you post them? :D

Nah, you rock, Doc. You've probably forgotten more than some so-called 'survival experts' ever knew, and from what I've seen, you've got a darn good memory. ;)

Sweet, I just bought a copy last moth. Want to get the full sized version also.

:D If thats the same SAS book im thinking of then on page 270 there should be something on self-deffense, skim down the the paragraph titled the crutch and try to read the whole thing without laughing.

I have the large version of this book and have read it several times. Loads of useful information in it!

I have both the large and small version. The small one stays in my pack and has been used countless times. Plus it makes for good reading while your camping. Enjoy.

I have two copies; one I keep in my bag and another I slipped in my son's Christmas stocking last year...he loves it! It's a great little book with a ton of info...if anything, it'll keep your mind occupied if you really do need it:D
