I have 5 more blades to finish that i sent off for heat treat 2 more ready for heat treat and 7 slabs to grind into something i havent looked that far ahead oh ya and i bought 3 chunks of random damascus.

hellgap,hi ive got a few ques. #1hom many pins did you use?(im havading a a bit of trouble withh hine)#2are you fitting the pins last after (on the handle)and do u soak thi pins epoxy?do youchamfer the holdethen peen the pies in thank you so much the handles have been givin me major prob.......willly (in case tou cant tell im groveling at your feet master of the steel

willy i just started making knives about 5 weeksago but spent 2 weeks reading before i touched a piece of steel. This web site is the best one out there. I been to another i wont say but not nearly the help so i dont go there any more. I was ass backwards the first few . but now i glue on one scale to the knife then drill it out in my press make sure its flat and square. Then I glue on scale #2 then carefully drill out the other side . I usually clamp it and leave it for several hours . I am using 5 min epoxy some time 15 min on the scales if they are auqward . .Before i start to glue make sure your pins fit freely but not wobbly they should slide through easy but not loose. You will se gaps of epoxcy if they are then ill use a mini anvil and a tiny hammer and swell the pin i think they call it peening. On my lanyard tube ill make sure its the same ide rather sand the tube to fit than redrill the hole . If its loose then take a small hammer and tap a small nail set punch in the hole to swell the tube i again place the opposite end against the mini anvil. 10pound anvil is a must i use it 10 times per knife. I then epoxcy the pins in and grind off excess after a few hours pending what epoxcy i use. Hope this helps. kellyw

hellgap, I love your attitude and I've seen every one of your knives get better and better. Your filework is pretty dang good for a "beginner" (better than mine, for sure). Your handles are blockier than mine, but that's just personal preference. Your sheathes are mighty nice, certainly above average. Now I see you're helping others on their way, and that's good for all of us. :)

Just try to stop cuttin' yourself on every knife you make... oh wait... that's part of the job :D

Keep it up, brother!

I need to start drawing even though i suck at it.Like WILL says draw 50 a week well i ll try 15 a week for a start takes me 30 min to draw one lol. Design is everything Will has good points pin placement is very crutial. I use a metric ruler way more acurate than a standard one.Very easy for me to convert i was in grade 8 when to convertion started in canada so i learned both . measurements in metric are 3 times more easy if you can add in 10 s and multipy by 10 your good ta go metric .Too many tape measures are way to har to see the lines. I use a 10 cent plastic cheap ruler METRIC clear plastic with black lines but has drafting squares at each millameter very easy andcant make mistakes when marking pin placement. I mark it then use a sharp punch to set the drilling spot. This might help ya out a bit more go get a metric geomitry set there will be rulers in there. kellyw
