I just coated my Mailbox Kiln in progress with Satanite. Have plenty left and was wondering if a Forge that's been used a few dozen times will take a Satanite coating? It's never been coated so do I thin it or use it thicker. I would think thin, but what do I know.

Thanks Don,
It went on fine thin. I though the wool would be more crudded up, but it wasn't all that bad. Used a vacumn to get any loose slag and it was fine.

If you are like me, you are gonna poke holes in that Satanite from time-to-time.

Like Don said, just thin it down and paint another coat on. The main purpose of coating the inside of your forge is to sorta seal up those hairy fibers from the Inswool or whatever lining you may use. Somebody said they are not good for your health.:)

You will know when it is time to quit painting with Satanite, and reline the forge (especially if you do any welding in it)

I'm going to follow up with ITC so do you think I'll need the 2nd coat of Satanite?
