Looking for feedback from Satellite Radio users, do you think it's worth the money?

Thanks.

Moving to Gadgets & Gear.

I think its worth it. I just bought a new car a few months ago that had XM radio for 3 months free. Before that, I swore I would never pay for radio - well, I renewed it. No commercials, great reception, and almost 200 channels. I really enjoy it. Be warned though, it's like high speed internet, once you have it you won't go back! Enjoy!

Sometimes it's enjoyable. The boss put XM in my 'office', along with satellite t.v. If it were my own money, I wouldn't bother with either one. Maybe if you live or work where normal radio reception is poor?

YES! Get XM (superior technology, more channels etc). Tune into Opie and Anthony, they're hilarious. And enjoy the awesome music stations (I like the decade channels (50's, 60's 70's, 80's, 90's). Lots of fun :D

I couldn't live without listening to commercial-free music or CNBC or news on XM Radio, now that we have it installed in both cars.

Yes, yes yes. I bought a new car January 2005 and have since renewed my XM subscription. I think it's the greatest. Once in a while, I switch over to FM and at first I thought that something was wrong with my radio. Then, I realized that FM just sounded so bad compared to XM. The best part is being able to listen to the same station on long trips. I drive across 3 counties on my way home and it never skips a beat through mountains and passes. You can see the name of the artist and song. You can get instant Sig-Alert traffic information, weather, news, etc. You get to listen to live events like feeds from concerts or in-studio performances. Tired of listening to the same old music? Switch to the Comedy category and hear a few jokes, then switch back. I cannot say enough good things about satellite radio.

my new truck has xm

i really enjoy it. i will be buying a regular subscription when my free trial ends

i am not a big music fan but it certainly has a wide range of options

i like all the news/sports/talk channels esp the bbc

If I had a car, I'd probably get it. Even though I have over 700 CDs, I can stare at my collection for 15 minutes and I still won't find something I want to listen to. At least with the radio, you just turn it on and it keeps you supprised with what it plays.

At least, that's the way XM/Sirius would be. The radio stations here in Tucson are the worst. They're all owned by the same guy(s?), and they only have 1 playlist per station, and they repeat it every frigging day. The only station with any variety is NPR.

There'd be no way I could tolerate regular radio if I were driving around town. $10/month for sanity and variety is a small price to pay. I'd get some sort of mobile one though, that you could pull out of your car and play at home or work.

If any of you listen to Howard Stern on FM and you have XM you'll be disappointed when he goes to satellite on Sirius. XM won't be carrying him.

Here's a nice clip of Howard Stern endorsing XM...

Oh, and although that clip is clean as a whistle :D satellite radio has NO FCC regulations, which means profanity and 100% completely uncensored speech, so you don't need to hear annoying censors in music (I know XM is that way, and I'm almost 99% sure Sirius is uncensored too)

Been listen to Howierd since the AM days, W-AAAAAAAA-B-C, if for no other reason, I'll get Sirius.

Who remembers Howard at the Club Bene shows on Rt. 35 in Jersey?

Back on topic, my buddy has it in his new Caddy, but for some reason the signal gets lost in the valleys in foothills of PA.

Howard Stern is one of the main reasons I am considering Satellite Radio, what's the difference between Sirius and XM?

Just different networks?

We have Sirius at work but they only ever play the classic rock and country stations and they are very repetitive. It's basically the same songs every night over and over. Now if they would change stations every couple of hours or so it would be great that way we'd get a little variety. As it stands I think they just wasted the money because the classic rock and country stations play the same crap over and over that the local stations do. Nothing against classic rock or country I just can't understand why with all the music out their especially in the rock genre, stations play the same 15-20 songs over and over and over. About the only advantage is no commercials. Like I said however if they'd change stations once in a while it'd be great.

As far as XM versus Sirius, I've never heard XM myself but from what I've read Sirius is alot more mainstream where XM will play alot more obscure stuff for any given style of music. I've also read that XM's equipment and sound quality is slightly better, and that Sirius has slighty better reception in most areas this is just what I've read though.

Hope this helps

Jamie

Also, XM has 150+ channels, Sirius has 120+. XM's equipment costs less (XM's SkyFi is $100 (radio alone), Sirius's Sportster (radio alone) is $150).

This question is more for Sirius users, how happy are you with their domestic and world news coverage?

Excellent. XM has premium content for which they charge extra, w/Sirius, it's not needed.
