Satin and Convexed FFBM!

Damn, that's nice.

I might just have to do a Pbubsy (back) so the owner will sell it to me cheap.

Cool, great job! I have a couple of FFBMs I'm going to modify as soon as I get moved into my new house and set up my grinder.

Ban,

Another beautiful job, you have a gift for keeping within the original design of the knife, but optimizing it for the new owner - Bantastic!

Sweet! A little elbow grease and you've got yourself an economy FBMLE...except it's one of a kind :D

Ducci,

I can't wait to see what you come up with on your KMG. I just forked up the bucks for one a few days ago. I should be getting mine sometime next week.

Funny enough, the value on that SHBM went up! :p

I can't remember...did I shave my B@!!$ with a Eu-Magnum? It's slipped my memory....

Yuck  To think that I actually worked on that thing

Ban, that looks awesome.

Paul if you try to shave your B@%Ls with that you will end up a eunuch:eek:

Ban..that looks great. I can't believe you did such a good job by hand. What grits of paper do you use and do you just wrap the paper around a cork block? I am thinking of getting a 1/3 sheet sander to satin finish a few knives as I can't get them that tidy by hand.

I had Ban satin it, the scales were steam cleaned and soaked in bleach for a week. All of your residue was removed.:D

I did the satin finish with sandpaper backed by leather glued to wood. The regrind was obviously done with belt grinder. It would take years to grind that much metal off by hand ;) Yes, the 1/3 or 1/4 sheet hand sanders will help speed up the process for the satin finish. However, you end up with lots of fishhooks in the finish. It isn't as noticable with the higher grit finish but definately very noticeable with the low grit stuff.

I use to use the hand sander first then switch to hand sanding with the same grit sandpaper to get the nicer finish. Then repeat the whole process again with the next grit sandpaper. It is a real pain trying to remove those fishhooks if you try to use a low grit with the handsander and immediately move on to the next higher grit by hand sanding. This is just based on my own experience. Others may have a better process but that was how I did it.

Thanks Ban..I did some work on a microtech currahee and went from 80 grit to 1200 grit and then used a dremel polisher with metal polish paste. It came out great but showed up some scratches from the 80 grit that I didnt notice so will do the whole thing ago. The sander doesnt remove much metal though even on 80 grit so I dont think it would take infi dimples out that easily.

No it sure wouldn't remove those dimples easily. I have to use 60 and sometimes 36 grit ceramics belts to remove them. Anything other than a strong belt grinder is too slow to remove those dimples. You can try a portable belt sander if you are brave and have a steady hand. I know of at least one guy that easily turned a nice knife into a ugly one really quick with it.
