Satin Jack variations

So I have loved the look of the SHSJ since I first saw one, but noticed that it seems as though the SJTAC just doesnt get the love like its sibling. Is there a specific reason for that, other than the fact that the SHSJ is an older model?

I like the looks of the SJTAC, and have seen a couple of cool varient CS examples, but I dont think I have ever seen one of the SHSJ's in the same shot as any of the SJTAC's. Does anyone have answers of the major differences between the two except for the handle shape?

I have also seen that the Jackhammer is actually a SJ that has been reworked....any truth to this?

I have been looking around for a while now for a SHSJ, but it seems as if none of them reach below the 750 mark, you guys must love those blades!

I owned a SJTac for a while but sold it cause it just didn't feel "right" to me. One of those subjective feelings, it wasn't a knife I felt compelled to keep.

Later on I snatched up a SJLE and feel that this is what a Satin Jack is meant to be, and couldn't imagine ever letting it go.

you know grimspoon, anyone i have talked about this with has had that same sentiment..... SJTAC feels "off", SHSJ on the other hand feels perfect.

The part that bothered me most, the SJTac I had was a perfect example of Tan and Snakeskin, an exceptional combo on any knife really.

However, that alone wasn't enough to convince me to keep it. I always feel guilty selling something with snakeskin, but sometimes you just do what you gotta do.

Alternatively, if I couldn't have a SHSJ, I'd probably be quite happy with a Tanker A (or Euro 4).

I like the SJTACLE (also erroneously called the HOGSJTACLE). It's a bit fatter and a full convex grind. It just feels better to me.

Do the blade profiles between the SHSJ and the SJTAC differ?

Here is what the 2 look like.

The first is a Custom shop DC SJTAC w/ GREx and Micarta. The second is the SHSJ .25.

SHSJ is a really nice knife. I just let mine go in trade for a 1/300, and sure do miss it!

My .02 is the TAC handle is not as nice as the SH. I recently got an after shock Bolo and the above mentioned 1/300 and the straight handle feels GOOD!

Well, I will buck the prevailing sentiments then. I have had both, sold both, and bought another of one of them because I missed the one I sold. I'll bet you can guess which I have. ;) I don't have a lot of SJTACs in a bunch of flavors; just one, and she'll be a keeper. As for the so-called "SH" SJs, I have no desire to get another to replace the one that went away. Crazy, isn't it???

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I think alot of the hype about the strait handle knives is just to run the already ridiculous price up evn more. I had a SHSJ and sold it and will never buy another one. They are not all that and no way can they be as comfortable to use as the SJTAC for extended periods.

I feel the same way about the SHBM, had one and sold it. I would rather have my Hortonized .2685 FFBM over any SHBM anyday!!:D

Just my .02!!

The TAC handles have a cool butt IMO. The choil on the SJTAC is huge which I don't like. I prefer the shorter blade height and smaller choil of the SHSJ.

I have smallish man hands and the SHSJ handle feels better in-hand.

Are you kidding me mang?:D To each his own

Those SHSJ's are the difference between a 10 and everything else. But, you get to choose who you wake up with.

But that just means more for you straight handle fans in the lounge.:D

The SH is just SO much sexier... Done deal.

I agree with this and with what Mikey said about the choil.

The SHSJ is a good looking knife no dought about it.

I do like the GenIII handles on the smaller knives like the PD and ABA though.

Yes, I am going strictly by looks here, as I have never owned either.

The SHSJ is next on my list...if I can swing it..

This just goes to show you that it is all up to individual taste. I love my SHBM and my SHSHII, and my ABA. Again, I won't be getting rid of them. BUT, the ever coveted and revered SHBA...:o...well, it's just not for me. Oh, it feels awesome in hand, looks awesome as well, but I've had a few of them and found their edge geometries to be such that something as simple as cutting veggies was a sustained effort in concentration and was a real chore. They're definitely not my cup of tea, but I do know a lot of other folks love theirs. It's all good! :)

I almost can't believe I'm saying this, but now that I'm looking at both side by side - I prefer the blade shape and choil size of the TAC version. Hmmmm.

That is the first time that I have ever seen them side by side. I for some reason was picturing a BATAC style stubby blade in my head, not a longer blade like it actually has.

I like the SJTAC more after seeing that shot. I think it would probably be a more useful knife than the SJSH. The blade looks wider...
