Satin Jack variations

If I had to choose between the two for a user, I would choose the SJTAC, although neither is currently in my user pile. I finally acquired a SHSJ or two, but strictly because I felt my Busse collection wasn't complete without them.

A knife in this length needs the wider blade of the SJTAC.
In the SHSJ configuration, the blade is too long. I consider it a distinctly smaller knife than the SJTAC. In this handle style, blade width, etc., the BAIII is a superior knife to the SHSJ. Of course, the ultimate expression of this style are the anorexic versions of the BAIII.

I have two SJTACs; I love them both. I don't know what others might be looking for in a Busse to say they don't like this one... but I love mine. The TAC handle, for me, is really comfortable in a variety of grips. Personally, I think they nailed it with this knife.

Thanks, Jerry!

THe SJ is not only one of THE Must Have Busse knives ever made.....its one of the Best Busse knives ever made:cool:

Here's one that made my set:)

and this story kinda says enough....if the Boss carries one......Don't you want one too?:D

A few nights ago, Jennifer and I were returning from Toledo (The Big City) down State Route 20. It was about 10:00pm and pitch dark. About 200 yds. in front of us a pretty bad accident occurred. A semi-truck full of grain had pulled out of one of the fields and was going about 10 mph when the Chrysler mini-van in front of us (going a bit over 70 mph.) slammed into the the rear of the truck. We were able to react quickly enough that we avoided becoming part of the accident and were able to offer some assistance to the injured man in the mini-van. Long story short, the front of the van was completely crushed, airbags were deployed, the guy was NOT wearing a seat belt and had crushed the steering wheel flat against the dashboard in spite of the airbags. Jennifer called 911 and stood in the middle of the highway with a large flashlight trying to stop three oncoming trucks form slamming into the now dark and impossible to see mini-van. I ran to the crushed up mini-van to check on the driver. The front quarter panel had collapsed into, and over the door making entry impossible.INFI to the rescue!!!! I had a Satin Jack with me and was able chop and pry the crushed body panel back and then pry the van door open far enough to talk with the victim and assess the situation. By the time the paramedics arrived they had easy access to the victim. The victim was in pretty bad shape and had suffered massive internal injuries. He was ultimately life-flighted to Toledo. I have no idea whether he survived the accident or not. I tried calling the hospital but was unable to get any info on his condition due to the fact that I am not a family member. He and his family are in our prayers,Jerry and JenniferSource: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=281054

Trevor,
IIRC, I read somewhere that the knife was a SJTAC, not the original version. Can anybody verify or refute this?

I have both...I had more SHSJ and wish I kept them all........but really, how many knives of the same configuration does one need.

Also, I prefer the saber grind of the 3/16ths, the my love of the fatties have always woo'd me over to keep the Flat Ground 1/4"+ versions......with the Black paper on Black blade being my favorite.

As for the same lineage......I couldn't put the SHSJ and the SJTAC in the same family.
2 ENTIRELY different styles, feels, and obviously....looks. Almost as though they were made for 2 separate purposes.

I am not much of one for customs......but I would REALLY like to get this one

Gawd I love Jerry's knives!!
The PD has a similar handle to the SJ, I've noticed.
Great :thumbup:pix, All!!

I thought I was really going to like the SJT but it left me lukewarm and I traded it for an original SJLE in black canvas. On the other hand, the BATAC seems perfect to me. I can't wait for the Tank Buster....

Here's an interesting shot that shows my old HOGSJTLE in comparison with an EU-17 and ZTNO:

Regarding the comment above:
I like the SJTACLE (also erroneously called the HOGSJTACLE).

According to Jerry's own website at the time these were offered, there is nothing erroneous about that name: http://web.archive.org/web/20050723010004/www.bussecombat.com/knives/
The Limited Edition Satin Jack Tac HOG will be serial numbered. (Serial numbers are assigned in the order in which the orders are received).

Unless you think we should be calling it the LESJTHOG?

Trevor,
IIRC, I read somewhere that the knife was a SJTAC, not the original version. Can anybody verify or refute this?

I copied this quote from Guyon about a week ago:confused:

Either way, the story was a direct quote ( or appearred to be) by Jerry.

Guyon, subsequently posted the pic of the actuall SJ knife in the same thread.....I'll try and find. ITs was a JC with tan handles.

I believe its the original SJ though especially due to time frame. I don't believe the SJTAC had been made yet:thumbup:

As was stated above, they really are 2 totally different knives,,,, I own 1 CG SHSJ , and a Euro4 (smaller version of the SHSJ) ,,,,,and one in the mail ,,, SHSJ ZT (1 of 100). These knives are excellent,,, PERIOD. Personally I don't like the *Tac* style knives. I own none of them , badger or SJ. For me it's just the looks. Basically it's ALL personal preferance .Buy what makes you happy,,,,,, cuz thats what I do. If I need a wider style blade,,,,can always use my skinnyASH ,,, NMSFNO ,,, SFNO LE ,,,or even the SAR4.

Great story about the SJ and the car door rescue!

I prefer the original SJs... (I still cannot call them 'SHSJs'). I have several in my collection and have been meaning to take and post some pics.

I do like the feel and size of the SJTAC, but have to agree that the SJTACLE is one of my favorite Busse designs.

Woo! Hoo!

thanks Rick.

THe ONE AND ONLY!
