Ok, I literally sat for 8 hours hand rubbing the bottom blade after stripping it. First I used 1000 grit and after about 4 hours I went to 1500 grit for aother 4 hours. they are slightly more polished than std satin, but nothing like a full polish which would probably take 3000+ grit.

The other two blades I did in 3 hours with 1000 grit. It is hard to tell the difference but the bottom blade is shinier. I am not done with any of them. The bottom blade probably needs another 2 hours worth of work but I am tired

Makes me have much respect for people that do hand rubbing of their blades.

No machine touched my babies.

So whomever has done this have you labored like a dog as I did or did you use other means?

WOW.....I am jealous!! I wish had 1 to rub...I will gladly work on it...just send it my way!!

Usually the final mirror is brought up after the 1000+ grit paper with a buffer, though with a blade that size and sharp I'd be hesitant to try. Maybe some metal polish and a bit more hand work :) I kinda like the misty finish more than a mirror though.

Great work! When you put that much of yourself into a blade, you just love it that much more.

"Misty look" is exactly how they look.

Very true, they become a part of you when you put your sweat and blood(sometimes) into them

That work is almost good enough for me to let you rework one of my TAN/TANs:eek:

What am I thinking? I need more whiskey!

Great job, Bro.

I rubbed and rubbed 'til I finally got her naked.

I did this Rat last Christmas. ;)

PM, those RW's are awesome!

A few weeks ago I also did some work on my SFNO. It was already satin but it had alot of battle scars:cool:
So I took some 1000grit and started rubbing. It came out very nice:thumbup:
It's more polished now compared to my other satin SFNO;)

Woow, great job.
Polishing three knives at once needs a lot of devotion and patience.

Took me a couple of hours to get my NO-E to a satin like finish.

thanks for the compliments. I am not satisfied with the finish yet. I figure another 2 hours will do the trick on the bottom one and probably 3-4 hours on the other two each. I have already put 14 hours in the past 4 days on these things so what's another 10 hours.

I think Paddling man has the right finish on his. What was the final grit you used paddling man?

Wicked, yours looks like mine, except that it looks like you got all the INFI dimples off of yours. You must have used a fairly rough grit to get rid of those dimples?

both look really nice.

Guyon, no grinder will ever touch these knives, EVER!

Chuck, I might just start working on my Tan/Tan BM-E-LE :D

What do you do about them INFI-divots in the blades?

I got a PD that was stripped but untouched last month. I keep looking at the non-ground area that is nice and shiney, but pockmarked like Tommy Lee Jones.

It's not a LOT of area. I'd probably tape off the rest just to be safe. But would 1000 be good to even start with? I'm thinkin a bit of work with 600 or maybe even 320 to start might be good just to even out the bumps. THEN go to 1000 then some crocus cloth to finalize it out. I don't want it Randall-mirror finish, but a nice polished mostly-mirror satin would be great.

Thanks.

Oh NO!!!!:barf:

The humanity..............

Step away from the bong!

Sit down, Light a GOOD cigar, have a tall, strong drink, and for HOG's sake think about your actions

Man those look good!

Did any of those knives have any grind marks on them to start???

I got this SJTac that was already stripped, but has some really deep marks in it... It seems like i'd have to move too much metal to get these out
