Satinizing your Blade

I think Paddling man has the right finish on his. What was the final grit you used paddling man?

Thanks!
1500 was the final sandpaper. After that I used (over and over and over) a metal polish and handrubbing. (I really, really, really want to use the banned emoticon for this post!! :D )

I feel your pain. I would never choose to do this for money. You could not pay me enough to do this for work. Only my love of my blades will make me do this.

I removed the scales and have only the handle section of the blade machined to remove the dimples.

Gotcha. Problem for me is I refuse to allow a machine to go near my blades. No grinders or belt machines on my blades.

Man those look good!

Did any of those knives have any grind marks on them to start???

I got this SJTac that was already stripped, but has some really deep marks in it... It seems like i'd have to move too much metal to get these out

Yes, but they were not so bad. Start off with a slightly rougher grit. I never used anything less than 1000 grit on mine, which is the grit you can use in the clear coat sanding over auto paints so it takes only minor amounts of metal. Try it. You can buy the sand paper at any auto paint specialty store. Home depot doesn't carry the high grits.

Awesome pics. I really want to do this to my NO-E but it's coating is near perfect so I think I will abuse it a bit first.

I did do this to one of Justin's RD 9s and then added a mustard patina. Came out looking pretty cool.

W:eek:W those are looking really nice!!! I like 'em satinized.
