Saturday Hike

Nice dex...texas looks a lot like the part of france i m from.good call on the eno hammock.
Barefeet......HIPPIES!!!!

Look like a great time.

Nice gear selection and great owl pictures!

Jeremy

It was man. And I really lucked out with the owl. He was really really high up and I just happened to look up as he was moving to a new tree so I sat down and waited. I had a hard time finding him in all the tree cover. Then he ended up flying to another tree and I some how captured him in mid flight.

Looks like a good day out man, thanks for sharing. Obsess with the 16 much? :D

Thanks Warrior. And I do believe I might have a small problem with my 16 obsession. lol

WOW! Awesome pictures! I always thought TX was dry and Arid, like CO.

Thanks!

Thanks.
And most places around here are not like this. This place is really special and doesn't even feel like Texas.

Fun stuff, Dex. Great pictures!

Thanks Jerry!

Amazing pictures my good sir!

Gotta get myself a nice hammock, I'm jealous.....

Thank you and man I don't think I will ever be without a hammock again. So relaxing and a great way to enjoy the outdoors I think.

Awesome photos man
The first few coulda been in Florida with all that Lovely Green water

Thank you. And I am from South LA and it sure does remind me of home. I think that's why I love going there so much..... and the fact that it is so beautiful.

AMAZING pictures. Just beautiful all around.

Also your 16 collection is amazing.

Thank you WW! And I am quite fond of the collection my self.

What a cool place to explore. Barefoot nonetheless! Makes me want to get outdoors and raise my hammock. That shot of all the 16s is impressive. Lemons...ya right.

Thanks Eero! And I hate shoes! I have lots more 16 pics to upload that came out amazing also. They will be up soon.

Nice trip report; looks like a beautiful place to lose yourself for a couple of hours. Very woodsy. Seems like you gave your new pack a nice workout hauling your dozen or so knives lol.

Can I ask how long you've hiked barefoot in the woods? Is it like a Lundin thing? I've thought once or twice about taking off my shoes in the forest but I must admit my baby feet wouldn't be able to take it. I usually walk around camp barefoot when I'm backpacking, but that's about as far as I go. Interesting tho. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Aikguy. It is a majestic place for sure and the pack did a great job and I am very happy with it.

Haha...... I have gone barefoot especially outside at home since I was a kid. I can't stand the way shoes and socks constrict my feet. Since we moved out to the county, I haven't really worn shoes but a few times, if I leave the house it's my Teva's, even in winter. My feet don't really feel it much anymore and I have been hiking like that since last summer. I find I am quieter and see much more wildlife too. Maybe cause I am moving slower and taking my time and making less noise than with shoes. I actually feel like I have more control and balance when I am barefoot. I would not recommend it to everyone tho but would say most people should try it at least once. It is dangerous if you do not look where you are going.

WOW! Beautiful pictures. Those amazing knives look great out in nature.

Thank you Brian, and I think so too! I am probably gonna start taking pictures of all my work out there since it gives so much more life and depth to the photo.

How many 16's does it take to set up a campsite? ;)

Great location and awesome photos. I've always loved turtles and owls, but never seen 'em in the same day (except at the occasional wildlife center or zoo.) You reminded me that I need to get out more.

Thanks TJ. And a man can never have enough 16's! lol

Beautiful spot Dex, that's my favorite kind of terrain. With all the duckweed and cypress trees it looks just like behind my house. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Trade! Where are located? And I grew up with Cypress trees in my back yard too, right along the Bayous in LA. These are different type of Cypress than what we had tho.

Really nice pictures, Dex. What camera do you use, if I may ask? Do you use something to steady your camera, like a tripod or not?
Of course, the 16s are super nice as well. Thanks for takin' us along.

Thank you G-shark! I have been using my wife's old digital Rebel XT. I have been wanting to get myself a new one with some nice lenses but this one seems to be doing pretty good. I may look into an adapter so I can use all my old 35mm lenses and save some money. Most shots were free handed but a few of the 16's were on a tripod since I had longer shutter speeds. I do usually hold my breath when I snap a shot like when I am shooting a gun. Helps a lot.

great pics Dex. that area looks like a great place to explore. thanks for taking us along. your 16s are real nice too.

Thank you tman! I still have a few spots left to check out too so the next few hikes will still be partly new to me.

That looks like an awesome place to wander off and be left alone. Great pics, and those 16 mods are just amazing.

Thank you NN. I wish I could have stayed out overnight for sure!

great pics thx for sharing looks like a great time!! ohh and I think you should consider getting a bk16 lol!!

Thanks fields. And yet another 16 joke! haha. I do guess It's time to obsess over a new blade. Maybe I'll start modding 15's.

Awesome pictures Dex! looks like an awesome relaxing day!

Thanks TBL. I had a blast.

Barefeet......HIPPIES!!!!

Thanks Denny, and all of Texas doesn't look like this. Where in France are you from? And that Eno is so comfortable that I am thinking about getting the Double nest and setting it up inside my house to sleep in since I hear it is better for your back that a bed. And I no Hippie but I do prefer bare feet. haha

From the "loire valley"... West atlatique coast.i do have a hammock set up at home as well take lots of naps in it.

Thanks Aikguy. It is a majestic place for sure and the pack did a great job and I am very happy with it.

That's awesome thanks for the reply. I hear ya about sandals; I also live in them during the summer. Just got a pair of Keen's last year - very lightweight with minimalist sole. Love them. Dunno about wearing them in winter tho; I only have so many toes to lose to frostbite lol. Interesting take on seeing more wildlife and greater control while hiking; makes sense to me. Gonna have to maybe find a short trail nearby and give it a whirl sometime (once it finally dries up). Anyways, thanks for sharing your wonderful pics!!

Great photos, Dex. Just beautiful, and a great capture of that owl. I see birds all the time, but they're unfortunately only captured on the digital brain film. Got a great close-up of a Flicker that I almost took out with my work truck. Easy to ID when it almost comes through the windshield.
It doesn't look like what I'd imagine Texas would....but then again, I've never been there, so....how long a trip to get there from home?

Really like this shot:

Best bk16 I've ever seen!

Awesome pics! I saved some of them for screensavers :) is that River Road Park? I still need to check it out sometime, take my wife and kid out for a hike, beautiful looking place.

Dex - where in or around Boerne is that? My brother lives in Boerne, and whenever I visit, the vegetation never looks so green and lush. Looks very welcoming when the landscape isn't seventeen shades of brown.

Forgot I took this video. It was with my cell phone so it's not great but will give you an idea of the area. This was where I was watching the owl. He is in the tree somewhere but I can't find him.

Enjoy

That's very cool Denny. One day I'll make it over there. And I am going to do the indoor hammock thing for sure.

Well here in Texas it never really gets colder than 30 in the winter. It's usually warmer than that. I wore shorts the entire winter as well. I find as long as my head and upper body are warm, I am ok. But for sure if it was snowing all winter here, like where some of these guys live, I'd be in the proper clothing. lol

Thanks Granite. And man, I have heard of people being killed by large birds flying thru their windshield. And I will have to get some pics of the rest of the town cause it really is nothing like this place. I can make it there in 8 minutes. It really is a shame that I don't make it out there more often. I will make it a point to go every week or so from now on cause I really do feel great after spending 4 or 5 hour out there.

Best bk16 I've ever seen!

Thank you xrangerx! I really like it too.

great pics dex ...always good to get to the outdoors

Thanks Vic. And man you are so correct about that.

Thanks for sharing the pics. Beautiful area and a great day.

You are welcome. Thanks for viewing.

Awesome pics! I saved some of them for screensavers :) is that River Road Park? I still need to check it out sometime, take my wife and kid out for a hike, beautiful looking place.

Thanks Lee. That's awesome you think some are screensaver worthy!! :) It's the Cibolo creek nature center. It's right off of 46 before downtown Boerne. Let me know when you go and I'll try to make it out with my family as well. There is also fishing in the creek. Check out cibolo.org for more info if you want.

Hey Munzer, It's right off of 46. I posted the link in the comment above. And Trust me, not all of Boerne is green, most is still brown but we have had a bit of rain and things are starting to grow. But during the winter, everything is dead around here. But that park usually does have lots of life since the trees and plants have the creek.

Awesome picture show. Thanks for sharing. I salivated looking at the 16s.... :)

Thanks Alex. And glad you like the 16's......... they looked so much better out in the wild.

My work will slow down a tiny bit in about a week and a half. Planning to take a day and a half off at the end of a week and spend at least part of the time in a place like this. Need to get out in nature - its been too long....

Wow, i'm going to have to visit that when I come to Boerne this year. My brother lives right next door, off of Herff Ranch Blvd. Thanks Dex!

Damn he looked big to a little tyke........ I loved the pix of the Sweet Sixteens of course....LOL..... Nice photos, very nice......
