Becky and I took to Ojibway Prairie today for our weekend walk. We've enjoyed the wonderful snow like everybody else around these parts. Beta and max were enjoying the Romp as usual.

Did I every tell you my wife was a ninja?

I did spot a deer up ahead, but with the dogs in front and my wife behind, I couldn't quite get a shot off. However, the tracks were all over the place.

We stopped at my usual little spot, had some coffee and decided to make a little fire to warm up our hands. Given that they burn this area off every 10 years to maintain the prairie, I thought making our little fire here would be perfectly fine.

For tinder this time, I went over to a standing dead tree and just scraped fine, hair like fuzz from under the bark. Then I proceeded to some slightly larger curls.

Oh I did cheat a bit and used a little fatwood to help things out.

Hey congrats pitdog! I'm sure a picture thread will be soon forthcoming!

Looks like a good morning K, You were saying you convexd the RC right? hows that workin?

Also, how do you carry your RC6 while winter loafing? I find on a baltric is best for me, I never could master sheathing a knife while wearing layers of cloth when its on my belt.

Yes Fonly, I convexed the RC-6 taking though 220 - 400 - 600 - 800- 1000 - 2000 grit series. I didn't get quite as aggressive on the angle as my 4" knives. The bevel did shallow out from the stropping though and the cutting efficiency is much better now. Not the best paper cutter on push cuts yet, but does a good job of wood curls. The RC-6 was kept in my pack.

On my jacket I have a chest pocket that fits the JK pretty nicely!

Great pics kgd! Looks cold but like a lot of fun.

What is the cord wrapped blade sticking in the log behind the fire?

That's a nice looking JK. I have to really get one or four. :D

Really nice day.

Ahh good stuff, I think I'm going to put a new edge on the RC6 you lent me;) Ill most likely take of the shoulders of the edge and just thin it down over all. I wont be out for a few days though, the power tools do not work as its too cold!:D

Hey CMDR - that is my Jiimi Wade necker. It is a great little blade. I now keep it in my fire kit and use to help fire prep. Fits in the kit great and can act like a bigger knife if it has to.

Regarding the JK's - yep they are a worth while investment. I think you would really like his 6" Scout model too!
