I just discovered another little park close to my house. It's named after a guy named Skiles Edward Test who's estate the land used to be part of. There are lots of sections of old fencing and foundations and various other leftovers from the estate, but it's still another nice place to walk very close to home.
Thought some of this fluffy stuff might make good fire steel tinder so I stuffed some in a pocket. It didn't catch a spark when I tried it later, but it worked well as secondary tinder after I lit a PJ cotton ball.
If you thought that honey locust that I posted pics of earlier in the week looked nasty, check this out:
Took my latest purchases with me. A Mora 521 and an Opinel No. 7:
I didn't end up using the Opinel at all, but the Mora was awesome for making shavings and fuzz sticks for a little fire.
Found a secluded spot off the trail and heated up some water for hot chocolate.
A lot of the park was open open fields, but left to grow wild. It was a little different from the heavily wooded parks where I usually walk.
I've recently found a couple of other small parks nearby that I want to check out, so maybe I'll have some more pics tomorrow.
