Anyone familar with the new fixed blade made by Spyderco for Savage Arms? Looks like a great tool for $60. Apparently availaabe only from the Savage Arms website. Partly serrated, saw on back of blade, nylon sheath, built in screwdriver bits, and sharpener.

Welcome to Blade forums. Hope you enjoy this place at least as much as I do.

I moved your thread to the Spyderco forum. These guys are much more familiar with their latest designs than us folks in the traditional forum and Sal might have time to add information also.

keep us updated please....

I don't see anything saying that Spyderco is the maker.....

Why in the name of all that is holy would you think Spyderco has anything to do with that gimmicky looking thing?

The reason someone may think Spyderco has something to do with this item is from the description in the ad found on the internet about this knife here is some of it from the web-site I found using a google search I am  by this.

>"The knife and its interchangeable blades are manufactured in Seki, Japan (the home of Spyderco) of high grade, heat treated and tempered stainless steel. We would not be too astonished if we were to learn that this knife is made for Savage by Spyderco, one of the foremost knife manufacturers in the world."<

It is very decieving & with it's wording, one could mistakingly think Spyderco has a part in this knife :(

I am :eek:ed they had the b@!!$ to write this junk in the first place but I guess it may sell them more knives so they figure why not :thumbdn:

Most of the stuff on CHuck Hawks pages are his opinion. I doubt Savage put him up to anything.
He is much more into photography, firearms, ballistics, and shooting in general. It wouldn't surprise me if he just isn't well versed in knives. He may be under the impression that the only knives comming out of Seki are Spyderco's. He obviously doesn't know the "Home of Spyderco" is Golden, CO either.

I'm not slaming Chuck Hawks. Knives just aren't his strong suit.

Seki-City is a center of Japanese knifemaking has has been for centuries. There are many, many knife manufacturer's in Seki, and the companies that produce for Spyderco are just a few of the many. Don't be confused - just because a knife was made in Seki doesn't mean that it has anything at all to do with Spyderco.

Not only that, but even the Seki makers who build knives for Spyderco are probably doing the same thing for one or more other manufacturers as well. As an example, I know that Moki has built knives for Beretta in the past, because I own several of them. I also suspect that, as with all other manner of goods, makers who build on contract build whatever a customer wants to pay for, at a level of quality commensurate with the price. So the same folks who are building a $100 knife for Spyderco could conceivably be building a $25 one for someone else, with lower grade steel and less attention to fit and finish.

So that website owner's assumption that Seki = Spyderco is a leap of logic of Herculean proportions.
