And I thought I had problems- thanks for the perspective!

A ghastly & grisly business, but at least we don't remain in ignorant bliss about these unspeakable acts!

Maybe it could be renamed a Gnat's Foot or Currant Sampler? :D

I thought the Catherine wheel was no longer in use in Britain, but it seems that someone has found another way to use it:eek:

This is exactly why the progenitor of the each species must be preserved, not abused and tortured. So that one day, as the Bokanovsky genetics are refined, exact replicas of the species can be brought back into existence. Many species are being corrupted through transgenic manipulation ( not Mendelian ) of their genetics. For a true species to survive, one must preserve its ancestry. Additionally, the breeders of the blood lines, cannot learn their skills through hypopaedia, they must have direct experience of the techniques involved, passed down to them by experienced practitioners. Community-Stability-Identity.
Being the head of Hatcheries and Conditioning, you sir must guide the direction of the resurrection. This will not happen through an oviparous means but only through a viviparous one. You must make these pronouncements sententiously, as you always do, in the true meaning of the word (full of wisdom), so that students of the art form and the collectors and accumulators will work now, toward your ultimate aim. Then and only then, may the path to the continuation of the species be realized, and we are not speaking of them posthumously.

Gev-I'm not sure I agree with what you say here.
Why ?
because I don't understand a word of it.
Jack -that lambsfoot looks as though its been mauled by Dingoes and I'm reminded of the Chinese tradition of foot binding.
For those unfamiliar with Yorkshire here is a short video link that was made by the Yorkshire tourist board.

I don't have my camera but with a little bit of steel wool and some NEVR-Dull I just brought back from the dead an IXL bone scaled barlow that had some surface rust. Its in my pocket now and will be for some time.

Thanks for the kind comments folks.

Maybe one day a new Lambsfoot can be grown from what remains! ;)

Ending is Better Than Mending...:D

I'm afraid it seems to be well beyond mending! :( ;)

Well done sir, hope to see a pic

Oh the horror!!!

There should be some clause for execution of idiots who use a grinder on pocket knife blades.

Or maybe they just needed an awl very badly?

Carl.

Why does a lambsfoot blade always say "real lambsfoot" on it, and how long has it been so? They don't seem to feel the need to tell us that other blade shapes are real.

The travesty, the horror...did you render the poor thing amnesty and arrest it from it's wretched life in the shop?

Being American...and having travelled through England not all of it is like Downton Abbey. Looks like the owner either turned it into an awl or a pigsticker in case things got unruly at the pub!

If I told anyone outside of this forum that I felt this sorry for a knife they would probably lock me up....

I'm with you on the executions Carl! You're welcome to it for your pipe!

I think it goes way back Jer, maybe the word 'real' had a slightly different meaning in the past. I've seen it on Sheepsfoot blades and Barlows, and have a couple of 19th Century knives from different Sheffield cutlers, which say 'Real Knife' on the blade.

It's been taken into protective custody, to live out its final days free from abuse ;)

LOL! Yeah :D

Goodbye Lambsfoot... hello Turkey Toe!

Yes, if the resurrection of this knife is not quite on par with the legend of the mighty Phoenix, let it at least be a turkey! And should part of a foot be a toe... well... it be a Turkey Toe to me. :D

Congratulations on being the forerunner of a bold new blade design, Mr. Black! Awl be watching this thread with great interest! ;)

:)

Nearly fell off my chair Brett! :D

Glad it was good for a giggle, sir! :)

However, I've had far too much time on my hands today and been athinkin'... (dangerous prospect, I know!) Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present a crude sketch of the "Jack Black Turkey Toe" penblade:

Part craft blade, part awl, part kiridashi... all awesome!:cool: And if it don't fly... well... it's a turkey, not an eagle! :D

At the risk of being chided for resurrecting a dead thread, I want to give an update on the fate of this poor old lambsfoot.
(cue Sarah McLachlan music)
Jack has sent him to live out his retirement at r8shell's Home For Over-Sharpened Knives. He will be treated with care, and be given the chance for rehabilitation. While he's earned his rest, if willing, he may show his use as a leather punch, letter opener, or perhaps an apple peeler.

He will have good company here among some well-used American cousins, many of whom still show surprising utility if treated gently:

case congress

kutmaster

pocketworn case

Won't you help prevent knife abuse?
