Hi All,
Okay, I know I posted a couple of days ago and said I was a little disappointed with my Saver Salt, but sometimes first impressions are wrong...and so was I. I have not had the opportunity to REALLY try this out yet, that's tomorrow and will have pics, but the more I play with it the more I love it. Here's why:
First-It feels fantastic. I really, really love how this knife feels. It is really light in my hand but still feels really solid. The handle is so thin that it has just amazing ergonomics in my opinion. And the texture of the grip is very nice but doesn't feel like it's tearing up my hand.
Second-Opening and lock up is very easy and solid. When the knife is about halfway open it feels a little wobbly side to side but then again, it's not supposed to be used when it's only halfway open.
It's a bit stiff, but it's new so that's expected. But I can flick it, drop it, or roll it open with no problem left or right handed. And when it is open and locked there is a very nice, satisfying "snick" that indcates to me that it is locked and ready to go. There is no blade play in any direction. It is really solid.
Third-This thing cuts. I know I had issues with the serrations and not being able to cut as a righty away from me (like a whittling motion) but the stuff I have done with it is amazing. I compared to to my Tenacious in my own kind of cutting test and was amazed. I made a 2 foot 8 strand paracord braid and used my Tenacious and my Saver to cut it and wow! I was expecting the serrations to drag and really tear the cord, but it cut just as cleanly as the plain edge tenacious and with less effort. Wow! Then I tried it on single strands of cord, some hemp twine, and an old piece of nylon leash and the cuts were so clean and effortless. This thing is amazing. I also unfortunately discovered that my Saver will indeed cut flesh very cleanly. It cut me! Sliced an inch and half gash in my leg. I posted about that in the General Knife Discussion section.
Fourth-The steel. I haven't had the opportunity to test the rust proof properties yet or edge retention or sharpening, but I gotta tell you there is something about this steel that is just...Sexy! I know that sounds weird, but it does. It just feels so light and solid and just wow! I am probably making no sense, but you just gotta play with it and feel it. I've got knives in the Tenacious steel, VG-10, 440C, 420 and none of them feel like this blade. It is just...well I don't know what it is but I like it a lot!!
That's all I've got right now. And hopefully I'll have some outdoor pics to post with this tomorrow. As much as I love my Tenacious and my Dragonfly I wouldn't mind having a whole slew of these types of blades in my collection. Seriously, right now I want both the Salt 1 and the Saver in plain edge just because of how fantastic this one feels in my hand. That really is the biggest thing for me. Oh, and I love the blade shape of the Saver. It is just so cool.
Okay, I'm done now. I'll update this tomorrow. Have a great night and day.
