saw another knife nut today

I meet a few here and there at work.

Im a chef so customers sometimes ask since im always using my knives

I saw a guy at golden corral the other day eating dinner. He had like 4 different pocket clips showing. I recognized a tenacious i think. Knife nut for sure. Mostly cheap stuff at my job at a grocery store.

I grew up here and its home but I'm tired of the city. I want to live out in the country for a little bit

I completely understand. I live close enough to a major city for anything I want, but out in the country far enough to see deer, coyotes, and tons of other wildlife. When I move again it will be even further from the city.

I do that quite a bit. Large knife in each front pocket, Leatherman Charge Ti left rear. And sometimes a sheeple friendly small knife right rear. Prefer to use blacked out clips while wearing black Levi's though, so may be harder to spot. I either use traction tape, or heat shrink tubing on my clips. It's replaceable when damaged, and generally more durable than the hardest coatings the manufacturers apply.

If the knife is a high visibility knife anyhow, I do not worry about blacking out the clip. All the large Cold Steel folders for instance.

I went to the Cobb Galleria in Atlanta a month ago and saw a bunch of knife nuts :p

Interestingly enough I met a now, very good friend via "knife kinship" I was about 20 years old, he was 19 at the time. A friend introduced us. I meet this guy, and he essentially is sizing me up thinking I'm going to start talking about some crap brand. I glanced down at his pocket and said "ooh. nice. Sebenza?" We start to chat a bit.

turns out he's a SERIOUS collector, and he spends all his money on knives, waaay more than I did. Eventually one day I saw his collection and he had every reeve 1 piece, all sorts of early busse, and many original Brend. He's the one that introduced me to Microtech and helped me get my first one, 1999 D/A Socom. All his microtech are original numbered pieces in glass cases, and he usually carries his Sebenza and a combat Troodon.

He's still into knives, but now he's into high end firearms as well, as, like me, his income has increased as he got older. his 2 matched Ed Brown .45s are incredible.

I take my kid to exercise/music classes and it never fails to see one or two dad's with clipped knives, ( Emerson and Spyderco ) but it's not like we can pull them out right there and handle them so I just don't say anything unfortunately.

I dont see too many knife nuts here in Jacksonville but I'm sure they're here.

There are definitely some here. One of my friends here got me into knives a few years back and I have passed the knife bug along to a couple friends as well. (I'm down in St. Johns though... so not super close to you up around Atlantic Beach.

I don't know knife nuts, but there are a few guys at work that I suspect are knife nuts. One of them always carries a Victorinox Outrider in his laptop bag and he uses it to cut his daily fruit. I've also seen him opening a box with a Leatherman Micra on his keyring.

I currently work at a Sheriff's Dptm and even here, you don't see many interesting knives. I've seen a lot of S&W knives and Frost Cutlery knives (unfortunately). The gang unit carries better stuff, as do a couple of the older gents- I've seen a couple of Spydercos, a Cold Steel Recon One with the old Ultra Lock, and a lot of fully serrated Cold Steel Voyager series.

Are there any good knife shops around you? I'm always keeping an eye out but besides shooters (which is mainly production) there really isnt anything here in town

Hot dang. I'm so excited. Today my mailman asked me if Spyderco made good knives. After years of delivering me knives he has developed an interest. I told him heck yes and on his return trip down the other side of our street I handed him a 2012 Spyderco catalog. Nothing better than seeing a noobie getting into knives. In some odd way I am envious and wish I was starting out on a new knife journey.

Not sure how long it's been since you've been to Shooters, but they've significantly expanded their knife selection. Aside from the most common and affordable knives, they have an expansive selection from Benchmade, Spyderko, Emerson, Microtech, Spartan Blades, Wilson Combat/Chris Reeve and many others. Only other place in the area I've seen a decent selection is Bullseye Guns, but they mostly carry Benchmade, Kershaw and CRKT. The Gun Gallery carries Striders, but dont normally have very many and they dont last long when they do get them in. However, if you're looking for high end production and customs, a 35 minute ride to Arizona Custom Knives in St. Augustine just might be worth the trip.

Damn, Jax is starting to own OP's thread, might have to rename it, "Knife Nuts in Jacksonville". :D. Oh, and just to keep the thread on topic; I notice knife enthusiasts all the time, but they're mostly hangin out in gun shops, auto shops and hunting/fishing stores.

Funny, I also worked at the World Golf Village when I lived in St. John's.
And yes, once Shooters moved across the street they got better in their knife selection. I bought a barrage from them, but they also had a $600 Damascus Infidel. When I left three years ago, they didn't have Reeve though.

JAX-FTW :)

A knife nut can spot another knife nut and probably identify the knife from the pocket clip.

One time I pulled up at a red light next to a motorcyclist. I noticed he had on his frp a spyderco clip. He saw me looking and I said, "Spyderco?" He replied with enthusiasm, "yup!" And drove off. Lol
