I've got a line on some large industrial circular saw blades (from a mill), and was wondering about the steel.
If they happen to be carbide tipped blades, is the steel part any good? I would think it would still be a good quality tool steel....but not completley sure.

I've gotten a few 23-24" circular saw blades with carbide tips and just cut the carbide off the teeth. I was told they were L6. The blades that I ground out of the blade harden nicely- no problems. How many saw blades are we talking here? Florida is not known for its saw mills, if you know what I mean...;)

Could be almost anything but not likely L6 (I know, I've just about run this into the ground). You need to do a quench test on a piece to see if it hardens. Most likely will make a good knife but not all carbide tip saw blades are high carbon steel, most are.

West Kootenay Region, British Columbia - Plenty 'O Sawmills! Not to mention the biggest Rainbow Trout on the planet! I'm not sure the size of what I might be getting. Although the guy who I'm getting it from made this huge cresent blade out of one piece, left the teeth on. It looked like something from Chronicles of Riddick... nasty. Anyway, they're big, maybe 20-50 inches in diameter. Should be able to work up some of that industrial bandsaw blade too.
