Saw something at Walmart that was totally unexpected.

Went to a different store in town than my usual one-------going through the sporting goods and look in the knife case and sitting there was a full sized Military(plain blade/camo scales)------------at first I thought it was some knock off till I took a closer look at it.

Any price difference than from online would be eatin up by sales tax----------so no deal

Also scored a Z-rest camping sleeping pad----which I never expected to see in a Walmart either.

That's the thing---I've never seen a Spyderco in any other Walmart until now let alone a Military.

They had then online (Walmart Native) but never in the stores.

No Spyderco's at any of the Wally Worlds around my area either.

Probably a site-to-store purchase that was returned or never picked up.

That's possible, although with something as expensive as the Military, shipping to home would be free. OTOH, I know that, in the past, department managers in individual Walmart stores have the option to stock a few things above and beyond those dictated by corporate and am fairly certain they still can. I know that you can get just about any current Spyderco from Walmart online. The Native was the only Spyderco sold in Walmart stores, but not all Walmart stores sold them. The Walmart closest to me at the time did not, but one just a few miles further away did.

He knows something you don't. He works for Wally World and I believe is in charge of knife ordering in some way shape or form.

if you can't find a nearby walmart! just drive a couple more miles and bang! there probably 10 in each city, its sad but true and most don't carry any spyderco's,that's even sadder.:barf:

All my Spyders are purchased online thru Bladeforums paid Dealers. I don't even look elsewhere.

I was wondering if that might be the case. I noticed his location was Arkansas where Wal-mart is headquartered.

Quite a few years back Spyderco and Rip-Mart  oh!! I'm sorry I meant wal-mart :D Well anyway they had a deal going for about a year or so to sell a tan colored NATIVE model with S30V blade steel to the best of my memory I believe it was about 2007-08 or thereabout when Spyderco and them did that venture together. Because the wal-mart at Blue Springs, MO close to where I live had that tan Native for at least 4 to 6 months priced at about the 50-60 dollar range if I remember right>> before they sold their last one. Apparently Spyderco and China-Mart  eventually parted company over that venture and since then the only places here in the metro Kansas City, MO area that have had any amount of Spyders to offer have been Cabelas and Bass-Pro>> the two big mega sized Sporting Good retailers But for the most part they both have a very limited selection mostly consisting of the Native, Delica, Endura and I believe I do remember seeing one of the Calypso models at Cabelas about a year or so ago.

But the only place I can find high quality knives here in Kansas City is a cutlery store in downtown KC which mainly deals in commercial culinary type knives but they do have a few Benchmades and Spyders both along with a few Boker and Kershaw. But again it's a very limited selection for any of those premium brands of blades. Our Gun Shows here at KC have a couple of knife dealers that occasionally will surprise you with some decent Spyderco and Benchmade models. Last fall I even seen a disco'd Chinook model along with 2 of the Para models. But I rarely see any of the Military models here where I live unfortunately. The Military models I've aquired have mostly come from here at Bladeforums on the Exchange section>> That's why I've become a devout New Graham & One Stop Knife Shop customer for the most part

There are two Walmart's near me. Never seen any Spyderco's but they do carry a nice selection of popular Buck, Kershaw, and CRKT knives. One of them use to carry a few models from Kabar and Ontario Knife Company but they were phased out of selection about 2 years ago.

Since I'm pretty sure the person in charge of ordering for the local Walmart here is actually a monkey banging away on a keyboard, I doubt I'll ever see any Spyderco's in this store. It's a shame, since the closest dealer to me is about an hour and a half, and $18 of bridge tolls away.

I'll be curious to see how a model like the Military will sell there. It's quite a bit higher end than anything else I've seen there.

The Military is still too rich for my leadership's blood but we're getting in the game this year in a pretty big way.

I can imagine. I wouldn't think they would be able to lower the price enough for it to move, and still make a profit. I am a bit excited to see what happens though. There really are no places around here to buy decent knives, so as much as I dislike shopping at Walmart*, a selection of decent blades might be enough to get me in the door.

*Not for any moral reasons, I just don't like their stores.

Hopefully my store will get them in. They have a tendency to be rather limited in the knife department.

I enjoy knife shopping at Wal-Mart. I purchased a RAT-1, a Kershaw Leek, a Victorinox, and a Buck 110 from my local store. It would be awesome to see Spydercos there.
