Sawcut Bone Finish?

Good Sunday to you all.

Let me thank you for taking the time to read this.

I am attempting my first modification and am in the process of re-handling a knife. I will be putting stabilized saw cut bone on it. What is the process to finish/seal it? I have read CA works, but I do not want to lose the texture of the saw cut.

Also, this may sound odd, but it is not dyed and I would like to keep it as white as possible. If you know of any way to dye it more white that would be appreciated. Or, at least a way to keep it from turning due to use would work. I just soaked it in 50/50 hydrogen peroxide. Not sure if that is advisable but I have a second cut if I need to start over.

Thanks again for any help.

Brett

I've slow (?) boiled bone in just water and TSP -Tri Sodium Phosphate- to both get it very clean and help get it lighter in colour.

Unstabilized bone needs no sealer.
Stabilized bone doesn't either. Anything you do to make it more white will negatively affect the stabilization process. You should have bleached, etc. before stabilization. Use it as-is.

Thanks for the feedback.
Bill - Yea, I figured I jumped the gun on that.
I've read bleach turns it yellow and breaks it down to much for long term use.
I was mostly wanting to seal it to keep it from changing color due to hand grease etc.

If you want to whiten bone, use hydrogen peroxide and do it before stabilization. Once the bone is stabilized it should be good to go and not change color.
