Saws....

I have to agree about the usefulness of these portable hacksaws. I've used one for years, and while the stroke length isn't all that great, they weigh almost nothing, and don't use specialized blades. Of course, my cutting was mostly in plastic, an I don't think of hacksaws as great wood-cutters.

I swear by the Stihl saw, it's the exact same thing as the Gerber, only different plastic color(orange vs. black). I use these at work EVERY DAY doing tree work! I've used the Japanese ones such as ARS produces (very similar to ones I've seen at the camp stores only catered to the nursery/landscape industry) they're very sharp and cut good. They're fantastic looking quality too, but if you pinch that blade the slightest bit, SNAP. They break way too easily, because they're a very brittle blade. Don't get the saws with the really hardened blades, they're crap. The nice thing about the Stihl/Gerber blades is that you can sharpen them w/a chainsaw file, and they don't break. They might bend every once in a while, but pinch 'em in something and bend'em back... now your back in buisness.
