SAYOC Template definitions

Don,
I'm sorry if you thought I was talking down to anyone, I was not.
I often am too agressive in responding, or sarcastic although it is meant in jest.
For those who know me personally, it's much worse in person. No disrepect intended.

PS - Al, do you and I know each other?????

<<Flesh Compression also happens on a forceful slash, but not to the extraordinary degree that it can occur on a thrust.>>

Thank you for the welcome Don. Certainly no disrespect was taken from your previous posts by me and I hope my reply was also taken in the same spirit.
As for the slash... the interpretation is if the attacker is moving forward the slash is a thrust at any point the pressure cause it to be. Plus the next flow of this particular template goes back into thrust motion anyway which if we are already very close will make the slash a thrust no matter what, unless we pull away a great deal from the centerline and that would be inadvisable.

In closing, hello to all the brothers and sisters in the blade arts- I'm enjoying this site and will probably do more reading than answering. Very interesting posts.

Welcome again guys! Hope you lurk and post!

This is a medium that leads to a lot of hard feelings and misunderstandings at times because it is impossible to see the other person.

I just didn't want you guys to think we were morons either, there are enough of them on the Internet.

No offense guys. I'm trying to learn. I had been to several seminars with Guro Inosanto and talked with the someone I have been buying training blades from and they have talked very highly of Sayoc. I started doing the research through any souces possible due to being in the midwest.

Question:
When talking about he reflexisve responses are you taught there are different responses for different delivery methods (i.e. slash, thrust, compression cut...)

Don: Were you referring to the folding special addition Swiss army knife with 4" saw blade which had similar abrasion patterns as they found on Goldman's body? Or the Swiss army knife box for the said knife which appears in crimescene photos in OJ's bathroom but was never collected as evidence. I have not Furman's book but I hear it is very good. I have been to a seminar with Dr. Henry Lee and he made some interesting comments as well.

Hello,

Yes. However, being a feeder based system we are also talking about the response the attacker may have as no one is ever stationary. So they may react totally different than they themselves thought they trained to as people tend to go back to their primal most base state when stuck in a situation they don't want to be in. Same with the person we are training, they may have bad habits like using a cool trap they practiced from a less weapon heavy art and end up shredding their own limbs.

Btw, I also wanted to add that when I stated it was inadvisable to move away from the abdominal aorta I am already concluding we have committed wholly into an aggressive attack ourselves - we're already in there- no need to try something cute.

Ok let me feel really stupid..
I thought the Abdominal Aorta slash'n thrust was vertical in nature and "blueworm" was horizontal...hmmm maybe I need to go to Mike's house and ask..LOL..only that could hurt!..
of course..what do I know...

Bram,

You are right. The blue worm is the #3 lower belly slash. The abdominal aorta is the #4 fly wheel vertical cut - it is actually a thrust combined with a downward slash.
