Has anyone seen the new Scagel knife? If so, what do you think. It is on the www.Vintageknives.com website currently. I have put my pre-order in, I just hope I can take care of he 1095 in a high humidity climate?

I have been on P.J.s list for one of those since early March when PhilL tipped me off about them. No delivery date yet. "All things come to he who waits" :)

What do you mean that it reminds you of something from Tom Mayo?

I think he's talking about the thumb notch in the blades.

Love the look of that knife, but not the price. But if I were a millionaire, that's the knife I'd carry :D .

I received mine today and it is really a nice, solid very cool retro slipjoint. Hope I can plug ( I am not related or anything, honest) Black Squirrel antiques, they sold me mine, excellent service!

I can't afford a real Scagel so this is a very nice homage to Mr. Scagel.

First Northwoods knife I have acquired, I think they are a subsidiary or part of the Marble's company.

I just got mine, too. It's very cool, and the fit and finish are amazing. I'm almost afraid to handle it, it's so purty.

I have one of the new Scagel folders and it is a knife to behold. I think there pretty much all gone now as only 150 where made. :D

I saw several of them at the Pigeon Forge show last weekend. I am not impressed with them at all. Sort of on the cheesie side. But then that is just my opinion.

How so? Weak springs? Blade rub? Blade play? ???

Well, I don't know what Greg is talking about, but I was just looking at mine and it has none of the above. It's one of the nicest slipjoints I've ever handled. Strong springs, impeccable fit and finish, beautiful stag... I admit the nail nicks take a bit of getting used to, but on the whole it's a beautiful knife and definitely a collector's item.

What I meant as "cheesie" was more of a reflection of the design as a whole. Not just any one thing. I didn't bother to check the price on them because I wasn't interested in them after checking them out. I just didn't care for them. The blades seemed a little thin and the frame was a little too large. They are basically clunkers. Hey guys, that's just my opinion.

Okay. Just wanna check here real quick that we're all talking about the same knife, because after I took another look at mine, I don't see how you can call the blades thin. Don't get my wrong, I'm not disputing your right to think what you want, I just want to make sure we're all on the same page, as it were.
The knife I'm talking about is this one. And if you take a look at the blades in the second pic, you can get a pretty good idea of how thick they are.
Anyhow, I like it. I think it's a pretty cool folder. I won't use it since I've seen how quickly they've appreciated since I bought mine, but I'm glad I acquired it.

Yep, that's the one. Glad you like it James. Should prove to be a great piece in your collection.

I also picked up one of the Northwoods Scagel knives from Vintage Knives. Unlike the prototype pictured in alanforbes post, the one I received had an arrowhead escutcheon. Mine was not as sharp as it could have been but a little work on the stones took care of that. It was a little sluggish on the closing blade snap but that was also corrected with a little work-in of some breakfree. I was pretty happy with it overall.

However, the Scagel folder I mentioned above which I ordered from PJ Tomes arrived this morning. Wow! It looks similar to the one on the PJ link PhilL posted but with elk antler scales and forged 52100 blades. I don't have a camera but take my word for it boys and girls, it is amazing! I know how your are about your stag, PhilL, but even so you best talk to Master Tomes about making you one of these.

Trust me, the Scagel/Barlow is on my Tomes Wish List, probably the only knife before that would be one of PJ's 52100 forged Tah Chee Bowies in stag. I have one in Sandvik and jigged bone, but I need one in stag. ;)
