I am interested in building a few Scagel style knives with the leather handles including leather discs, SS or German silver discs and whatever he used for colored accents....red, white, blue, etc. Does anyone know what material he used or what would be appropriate now. The thickness varied from 1/16 to about 3/16" or so. Thank you.

I look forward to some experienced member's answers. I am looking to make some knives for some friends that hunt whitetail deer. Typically too small of antlers for scales and most are too twisty ( I think) to do a hidden tang).

I would think you would use anything you typically would for a hidden tang with the majority of the non antler grip being stacked leather. I've heard of those who have had their leather stacks stabilized before using and that to me seems like it would be the way to go.

I plan on making my own stacked washers, micarta spacers and metal bolsters with a CA finish on the leather. Metal peened cap on the tang.

G10 or micarta spacers sound like they would be the best (to me, anyway) nowadays.
