scale help

hi im getting a custom knife made and I need help picking a scale materal I either want desert ironwood or mastadon scales what I would like to know is what is the price difference and what would be the best for a user knife.

Usually mastadon/mammoth ivory will cost quite a bit more than ironwood. I have seen some matched sets of really highly figured ironwood burl scales selling for $125.00, but you can get nice sets for $35.00 to $50.00. Mastadon (you don't see a lot of mastadon ivory)/mammoth (much more readily available) scales can cost $300.00 to $400.00 for exceptional examples.

The prices will of course depend on the size.

Desert ironwood would be the better choice for a user. It is much more rugged.

I would also agree on desert ironwood, the premium stuff is awesome.
